JESUS LIVES HERE

Can they see the difference in your life?

We are caught between two worlds: the Monday through Saturday maze of TV, Internet, checkbooks, credit cards, car pools, classrooms, ball games, office politics, grocery lists, and shopping malls - and that Sunday "other-world" of religion. The two seem hardly to relate. It is up to mature Christians to make the connection.

In the church we speak of "living for Jesus." This misses the point. Living FOR Jesus implies that we are still trying to do something of our own effort on His behalf. We need to show people what Christ looks like, Jesus living "in" me; to be able to say, "See this life? I have moved out. Jesus lives here."

How can you become Christlike:

  1. Ask. Pursue a witnessing lifestyle. God wants to form Christ in you, not so you can be a good person but so others may see Him and be drawn to Him.

  2. Look for Christ. If you ask Him to be with you, expect Him to be there. Live in the expectancy of what God will do. Don't look for an assignment; look for Him.

  3. Prioritize relationships, not activities. Give up some activities so you are more available to people and to Christ. Remember that activity is not as important to God as intimacy.

  4. Get to know Christ. Read the biographies of the four Gospels, not just the "how-to's" of the Epistles. Spend time getting to know Christ, His culture, His nature. Learn to recognize His voice and take on His way of thinking. Don't pursue a set of directions. Pursue the person of Christ. Invite Him into all the areas of your life.

  5. Be authentic. We must not offer our culture a sanitized version of their own values, nor a watered-down version of God's. They have seen both and are not buying it. Nothing short of a pure and wholehearted life-changing invitation of Jesus Christ will persuade them.
