KEY SCRIPTURES:

"This is the one I esteem:
he who is humble and contrite in spirit,
     and trembles at my Word."
                                                                                                (Isaiah 66:2)

A. How do we humble ourselves before God?

If we want to be humble before God, we must always possess these various attitues:

Acknowledge with our lips our total dependence on God before man

Submit to his Word;

Turn to Him in praying and fasting;

Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit;

Give Him all the glory for all He has done.

B. Acknowledging with our lips our total dependence of God before man (Lesson 2)

C. Submission to the Word of God

If a believer says that he is humble before God, meaning that he is totally dependent on God, then he needs to submit himself totally to the Word of God.
He should accept God's Word as the final authority in his life, in all his plans, decision-making, and in all his conversation.

In God's Word, God declares His will, His plans and His purposes for man.
God knows what is best for man: how he should live, how he should think, and what he should say and do, in order to live a life pleasing to God.
A believer who submits himself to God's Word is one who is truly humble before God.

"This is the one I esteem:
he who is humble and contrite in spirit.
     and trembles at my Word."
(Isaiah 66:2)

As we humble ourselves before God and submit to His Word, His wisdom, love and power will be manifest in our lives, and will save us from destruction.

When we do not submit ourselves to God's Word, we will be destroyed ultimately: in our personal life, in our family, in the church, in our ministry, in our spirit, soul and body.

My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
(Hosea 4:6)

1. How to submit to the Word of God

A believer submits to the Word of God when he not only hears God's word, but obey all God's commands, believes all of God's promises, and agrees with all that God says concerning His plans and purposes.

In other words, to submit to the Word of God is to "fear the Lord" and to "tremble at His word."
It is to think the way God says we should think.
It is to do as God says we are to do.
It is to say the things that God commands us to say.
This brings pleasure and delight to God (Matthew 3:17).

If Jesus says: "I am coming back soon,"
then we should say: "The Lord is coming back soon."

If Jesus says, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; No man can come to the Father but by Me."
then we should agree and declare boldly that "No one can go to heaven except through Jesus."

If God commands: "You must not gossip and slander each other,"
then we should obey and not gossip and slander each other.

If Jesus commands that we should "God into all the earth and preach the Good News to all creation."
then we should obey and began to be involved in missions now through prayer, finance and participation.

If God promises us that He will "work everything for the good of those who love him,"
then we must believe and say "Praise the Lord, He is working our my present situation for my good, because I love Him."

If Jesus promises us that, "I will be with you till the end of the age,"
then we must believe and declare, "Jesus will never leave me or forsake me; He is always with me. Therefore, I will never be afraid."

When we submit ourselves under the Word of God, we are humbling ourselves before God.
We are telling God, "O Lord, you know what is best for my life. I will accept your Word, I will believe in your Word. I will obey your Word.
You created me. You know the way I should live to bring joy and pleasure to You.
Teach me from your Word."

2. How does God's Word bless us?

All of God's blessing comes to us through God's Word.
As we obey His commands, and believe in His promises, and agree with His revelations, God's life will flow into our lives, bringing blessings to ourselves and to others. Our lives will be changed and be transformed into the likeness of Jesus.

Blessed is the man ...
(whose) delight is in the Law of the LORD,
and on His Law he meditates day and night.
(Psalm 1:1,3)

(a) God's Word is Spirit and life

Only God's Word can bring life to our spirit.
God's Word is Spirit and it is the only thing that can enter into a man's spirit and give life to his spirit.

Jesus said: "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and they are LIFE."
(John 6:63)

Man shall not LIVE by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
(Matthew 4:4)

For ... he has grated to us his precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the DIVINE NATURE.
(2 Peter 1:4)

(b) God's Word is a strong foundation that can never be shaken

Our lives can never be shaken when we obey the Word of God.
Our Lord Jesus declared that when we hear and obey the Word of God, we are building our lives on solid rock.

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the ROCK. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the ROCK.
(Matthew 7:24-25)

(c) God gives us his wisdom and understand when we submit ourselves to His word

When we fear God and agree to His Word, he fills us with wisdom and understanding.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of WISDOM,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
(Proverbs 9:10)

The entrance of your Words gives light;
it gives UNDERSTANDING to the simple.
(Psalm 119:130)

(d) God's Word set us free

Through the revelation received from God's Word, we are set free from all bondages of the spirit and mind, and bondages of the body.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
(John 8:32)

(e) God's Word brings healing

When we receive the revelation that God is Jehovah-Rapha, God our Healer, we will be healed of all our sicknesses.

He sent forth His Word and healed them;
He rescued them from the grave.
(Psalm 107:20)

(f) God's Word provides guidance for our lives

God's word helps us to make the right decisions, decisions that can mean the difference between life and dearth, success or failure.

Your Word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
(Psalm 119:105)

(g) God's Word will cause us to grow in righteousness

As we submit ourselves to the Word of God, God will correct us, rebuke us, warn us, teach us, and cause us to walk in righteousness.
His Word judges our hearts, and point out our presumptions, foolishness and errors.

That He might sanctify and cleanse her (the church) with the washing of water by the word.
(Ephesians 5:26)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to diving soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the hearts.
(Hebrews 4:12)

(h) God's Word produces faith in us

It is through hearing and hearing the Word of God that faith is able to arise in our heart. And with faith in God, all things become possible in our lives, causing us always to walk in victory in all areas of life.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
(Romans 10:17)

Everything is possible for him who believes (who has faith)
(Mark 9:23)
