PROJECT OVAL:  The "One Week Wonder"
Roy and I call this project the "One Week Wonder" because we started and completed it within one week.  We both have normal day jobs so we spent the entire weekend and several evenings trying to get the car ready for the VW Classic in Irvine.  The background of the car is cool because it was Roy's Vintage Speed magazine cover car and he had it for 17 years.  A few months ago we started selling parts of the car, such as the Okrasa engine.  The car sat for months collecting dust and being of no use to anyone except for the insects who were starting to call it home.  I have always loved the car and made numerous attempts to deal with Roy to purchase it, but it never was for sale.  I dreamed about getting the car and two Volkswagens later, we figured out a deal (with a lot of LONG discussions!!!) and we decided to try and get it done for Classic weekend.  It was not so much for winning something at the show, it was because of all the parts we at Vintage Solutions make, I could not install them in any of my cars, the first being a 1960 Ragtop then the low mileage 1958 hardtop.  The following pictures show the only weekend Roy and I had to get the car done.  When we started, I still did not have a motor but we started it under the assumption I would find one....  Click on any of the pics for a larger image.  Enjoy....  We're still tired from the experience!
1. Saturday morning about 7am this is where we started, in the backyard of Roy's house.
2. Both cars jacked up to remove the adjustable front end of my '58 and the stock front end of the oval.
3. Roy working hard with a fire under his @ss to get the job done!
4. Only a couple hours later...  Both front ends are out!!!
5. The adjustable front end bolted in the oval with the BRMs on.
6. Later in the day...  The rear torsions adjusted and the brakes were adjusted and bled.  Now all we need is a motor.
