THE TV HISTORY
As Matt Groening was becoming well-known for Life in Hell, the producers of The Tracy Ullman Show noticed him just as other people were. They invited Groening to presetn an idea to them for a short, animated cartoon that would be shown on the show.
Matt wasn't too confident that his ideas would be accepted, so he didn't start drawing the characters (based on his own family) until he was sitting in front of the Producers Office. But instead of refusing his sketches, the producers loved them and accepted them to be part of their show.
On April 19th, 1987, the shorts of the Simpsons premiered on The Tracy Ullman Show. The audiences loved the Simpsons and couldn't get enough of them. From April 19th, 1987 to May 5th, 1989, a total of 48 cartoons were shown.
