oh Sue, I can't believe how well we did at the National! You should be so pleased. I'm still jumping for joy. I can't believe that Mickey got in the final four dogs. Well yes, of course, I can believe it. He is such a magnificent dog. Cammy is also very happy that her uncle did so well! We've put Cammy's ribbon up on her wall at home. It's very exciting. Can I use the word "exciting" too many times! I hope not.

Oh, I need to tell you that Cammy is coming into season. We need to make a decision really quickly, like within the next week, which of the dogs we are going to use.

    Hi Gretel,

Ok, I really think we need to go and use that dog Swift. He is a very nice, moderate dog. I was very impressed with him at the National, and his third placing in his class was very well earned. He's not fully mature yet, but I predict he will look magnificent by his 4th birthday. As you get more experienced, you will learn too how to judge the dogs as youngsters and what they will turn into.

The other option is that we use Panda. Panda is a little bit closer to you. I know that Swift will require a 10 hour drive, as opposed to a two hour drive to get to Panda. Panda is also a nice boy. I'll let you decide.

Sue - definitely I'm going to use Swift. Boy after all you've taught me, I know that while I have to travel further to get to Swift, I think it is a worthy investment. If there's one thing I've learned is that my puppies deserve to have the best sire, rather than the one who lives more conveniently closer. I want to do the right thing by my bitch, the puppies, and the breed. I'll arrange a couple of days off work. Oh, of course, I'd better call the owners, Louise and Pam, and make sure they are fine with it.

Cammy is starting to bleed. Just small drops, but last time it was almost a torrent, so I'm getting ready to make sure that no male dogs can get access to her. The house will be like Fort Knox by the time I finish. LOL

    Camilla Hi Louise and Pam,

I'm not sure you remember me, but I was one of the people that came up to you and your lovely boy Swift. He is a magnificent dog. I was wondering if you would let us use Swift over my girl Cammy (Ozewok Desert Queen). She is out Sue Samuel's lines. Sue has been mentoring me, and together we think that Swift is the most suitable dog for Cammy at this point in time.

Can you please let me know if you give your approval. Please let me know the cost of stud, the paperwork you need, and if it's ok if I come up next week. Cammy is on day 2 now, so I'm thinking I'd like to breed her on day 11 and 12.

    Best,

    Gretel Cosby

Hi Gretel - well we're glad you like Swift - we're rather fond of him too! LOL. Yes, and in our own biased opinion we think he is the best thing since sliced bread! Louise and I actually were talking about your bitch the other night. She certainly has a lot of potential. We think that her being used to Swift would be a rather nice combination.

Flight, son of Swift Here's a cute picture we thought you'd like. It's a picture of one of Swift's sons, called Flight. He's a big cutie and is living with a lovely couple just down the road. He is spoiled rotten and runs the house - that is, of course, when he's not sleeping! LOL. Importantly, what Flight does demonstrate very well is that Swift is passing on his excellent temperament. Every body deserves to have a dog of wonderful temperament - that goes without saying as you know.

The stud fee for Swift is $750 with a repeat mating if it doesn't take the first time. Can you please forward us a copy of Cammy's registration, and a copy of her HD results. Please make sure you have vet clearance before you come up for STD's. We will also get Swift cleared next week too by the vet. That, of course, is included part of the stud fee. We have had no issues with that respect so far, but will ensure that you can be confident in his health. I've enclosed for your records, a copy of his registration papers, his hd results, and the last medical report from the vet.

We will require that the stud fee gets paid next week when you come before the mating takes place.

Oh, at btw, it's very good that you've got some help from Sue Samuels. She's got some very nice dogs, and is doing the right thing by the breed. So many people aren't. And in all honesty, if you came to us without the guidance of Sue, we would have most likely have not allowed you to use Swift. But we know if Sue has taken you under her wing, that you must have the right ideals for the breed. That is very important to us. There is too much poor breeding going on in this breed around the world, and we certainly don't want our name or our dogs associated with bringing our beloved breed into disrepute.

Oh, and you can stay with us. Be sure to have a safe trip. I'll send you directions for travel next week.

    best,

    Pam.

Hi Sue, well I'm not sure whether Cammy is pregnant, but she sure is acting that way! It seems like her season is finished now, which is good - I was sick of having to turn away all the male dogs in the area that could obviously smell her and decided that they wanted a piece of the action.

The whole breeding thing with Swift was different than what I expected. It was all a bit messy, and noisy. Cammy didn't enjoy it much at all. Luckily Swift is an experienced stud dog, and that Louise and Pam really know what they are doing. Haven't they got a great set up for their dogs! They feed their dogs their bones out the back every night. Each one gets a separate raw meaty chicken carcass that Pam gets from the local poultry distributor. She then feeds them other bits and pieces. Swift gets a bit more than the bitches given he's a stud dog and weighs a bit more. Did you know they have three hens (btw - called Lew, Leandra, and Mindy) that supply their eggs? Oh they were just lovely.

In any case, I know it's just a waiting game until I know whether there are puppies or not. I'm scheduling to take a week off from work when the puppies come. I'd say they are due on 1 December.

    Hi Gretel,

Sue tells me that you have puppies due out of Cammy. That's very exciting. I'd be very interested in having a look at them when they are born, with a view to getting one. Would it be possible to get pick male from that litter?

    Hi Sue,

I know this might seem like a minor point, but I'm really going to have to start to think about what I do about puppy homes. I know that Cammy might have 8 or so puppies, so let me know what you think. I'm thinking I might put an ad in the paper, and put something on the rottie email list about it.
