Week Three:

Again, we would like to thank Reality Reel Media for hosting our sound files once again this season, it is very appreciated.

Continuing the show tonight is Ashley singing "A Whole New World" from Aladdin:

Nick: Ashley, this performance wasn't the best, but it was still really good. You have such a soft and pretty voice, and sometimes it becomes a little too much. You need to add some variety to your songs. Your voice becomes annoying after a while, so just try to mix up your performances so we don't fall asleep. Good Effort!

Ksenia: Very pretty! I just wish I could hear a little more emotion. Maybe it's just the song choice (most Disney songs are very light hearted) but it would be interesting to hear something a bit more dramatic. Again watch the air and a few tiny little pitch places (mostly on the upper register) well done though.

Stacy: I still like the "sound" of your voice! I really do... you actually have a nice "head voice" but again... to be a "pop" star, you need to get out of that and into your chest voice but I will say your head voice is the nicest sounding in this competition. You did nice on your last weeks song (You Light Up My Life) and I know I wasn't a judge for that week, but I just want to use that as a comparison and say that I heard "some" chest voice in that and I loved it!!! You need to practice in that more... strengthen it more and you will rock in this competition...ok, back to this weeks critiques.... Your pitch was very bad during those high notes which brings me to key changing again...cool edit is what most of you are using in this competition, i am assuming and if not then you need to use it. You also need to learn to be able to change the key up or down in your backing tracks and if you don't know how, i will show you (again, my email address is poodlehugs@aol.com) and if you aren't using cool edit, then send me your song, tell me if you need if higher or lower and I will change it for you. But Ashley, I really like your voice and think you have potential. Work on breath support (which was MUCH better this week) and watch your pitch and practice singing in your chest voice! Nice job! Ohh and your recording was much better!! YAY

Brandon: Ashley, I really enjoy hearing you sing each week, and tonight is no exception. You have a very innocent sounding voice, and that complements your song choice because you usually choose slower songs with a lot of range. There were a few pitch problems, I think, but overall it was good. My only suggestion is to try choosing a more upbeat song, and just have fun with it.

Do you want Ashley to advance? Please wait till the end of the show to vote!

Next up is Dean, singing "You'll Be In My Heart" from Tarzan:

Nick: Dean, do you ever have an off week? Like all of your performances, this was amazing! You sound so natural when you sing. You have a unique and fun sounding voice. You always pick the perfect songs for your range. Keep up the fabulous work! I love it!

Ksenia: This was nice. My only slight complaint is it would be nice to add a little more support to the upper descant-y parts. And be careful at 2:11 not to push the vocals too much (I've been noticing a lot of people lately are having problems with vocal cords). Otherwise this was wonderful.

Stacy: Guess what? I asked my vocal coach a question on your behalf last week..... I asked about how to tone down a nasal sound... remember 2 weeks ago, I complained about that? Well... this week it is SOOOOO MUCH BETTER! You actually gave me chills and there were parts where you went slightly lower in your tone and it was great (ohh and the little growl...love it!!!)! I'm impressed....very impressed with your tone this week... a HUGE turn around.... But, getting back to what my vocal coach said....she tried to explain to me about resonating the sound in your head and using your head as the amplifier..... and about not letting the sound get trapped in just your nasal area which happens when you try and hit high notes... you need to work on letting that sound come up your neck and open up and feel the sound bouncing through your whole mouth, nasal passage, AND teeth and the roof of your mouth and that will give a much more rich tone to your voice. BUT it seems you are learning that already.... because this was my favorite performance this week.... not because I think it was perfect, because it wasn't, it had a few pitch flaws and etc.... BUT I liked to hear such improvement and it was a great song choice and you did a great job and I was impressed...which considering I told you 2 weeks ago that I didn't think you had winning potential and now... I want to bite my tongue and say that at this rate, with the way you are improving week to week.... I wouldn't be surprised if you pushed your way up to the end of this competition! My hats off to you... nice job! Oh and i would love to hear you do something country, maybe a rascal flatts song because I actually think you would NAIL it!! If we have a country theme, will you please do that for me? Well, you don't have to but I thought I would ask!

Brandon: Another excellent performance, Dean! It sounded kind of pitchy near the end of the song, but those are really hard notes to hit and you still did a good job on them. You sounded comfortable singing this song, and it was a good song choice because it complemented your range nicely. You have been very consistent over the weeks, and I think you have a lot of potential to make it far in this competition.

Do you want Dean to advance? Wait till the end to vote!
