Hi, welcome to my first web site. Yes, as you have probably guessed by the title, this site will be dedicated to UFO sightings past and present.

There are numerous sites on the subject, so I will endeavor  to make " mine" as entertaining and factual as possible. That is not to say other sites are not taken seriously, perhaps some take the subject into the realms of fantasy. So, ready?, lets take a journey into the exciting and mysterious world of unidentified flying objects.

A close sighting

I have been fortunate enough to get a sighting of a couple of UFO s (will confirm year and date soon) One afternoon I happened to be looking out of my work area, and looking South, this large oval shaped object came into view from the East followed quickly by another. I estimated the distance to be ten or so miles from my observation point. Even at this distance the objects were massive. As they headed West they emanated various colors, and they sort of distorted inwards and outwards as they moved. Later, checking the distance covered by the time, a rough calculation would be that the UFO s were traveling at an estimated three thousand five hundred miles per hour (3500 mph).

Left: a sketch relating to that memorable day:

No noise could be heard, just the ghostly weird movement as they headed West. I was amazed at this spectacle, mesmerized in fact, that I had actually witnessed an aerial phenomena possibly not of this earth.

Shortly before the objects vanished heading south west , two fighter aircraft appeared from the North, then headed South and seemed to be attempting to intercept the UFO s. I recalled the sighting to a very old friend who made some enquiries on my behalf regarding the military aircraft. I needed some confirmation, but I had a feeling that this was asking too much. (Aerial sightings of this nature by the military are a closely  guarded affair; the total opposite is true  in countries like Russia and South America, where sightings are generally not wrapped in secrecy). As I suspected, the pilots of the two F4 Phantom fighters denied seeing anything. The crew may not have seen anything on the other hand, and I was the right place at the right time!.

Above : Llanbedr Airfield, situated in North-Wales, UK. The UFO s that I saw were seen quite close to this base,  which is well known as a test and evaluation center for unmanned aircraft. Could this be a significant factor in relation to  my sighting. Personally I believe this is quite likely,  UFO s are sighted quite frequently near military establishments.  My observation point was near the hangar, extreme right, middle ground.

The Welsh Connection with UFO s

The Egryn Lights

The Religious revival of 1905 in Wales was unique. It was led initially by the evangelist Evan Roberts. A study of the 1905 revival describes the "mystic doctrine of salvation by personal experience, in which realization of sin led to an emotional crisis which convinced them (the converts) that they had been saved". Preachers denounced sinners from the pulpit, and promised the glories of heaven for those who repented. Packed services ran for hours at a time.

Yet the activities of Roberts were insignificant compared to the happenings that came to be associated with Mrs Mary Jones, a 35-year-old farmers wife from Egryn, a hamlet between Barmouth and Harlech in Meirionethshire. (now Gwynedd) Evan Roberts visions were often subjective, but Mary Jones inspired  phenomena that was visible to others. Wherever she preached in Wales, she experienced visions, and found herself attracting moving  lights wherever she went, and received messages from Jesus in bodily form.

She truly believed that she had been chosen to spread the goodwill of the revival throughout Meirionethshire. These experiences led her to commence nightly meetings in her local chapel. Quite soon others experienced visions and they too were converted. One famous example of the phenomena was reported in the Cambrian news of 13th January 1905 when Mrs. Jones was attending a congregation at Pensarn, which is approximately 12 miles south of Egryn chapel. The chapel can be seen from the railway,  and as a train passed (the chapel) the train driver a local man from Machynlleth   reported seeing a light blasting out in at least ten different directions, and then joining together and culminating in a loud explosion. The light was also witnessed by his mate.

To conclude this interesting chapter , we could ask ourselves , were the lights created by paranormal means through Mrs. Jones, or was it God demonstrating his power in  order to convert sinners . She continued her mission until 1906 when  the revival finally lost its direction. Her husband died in 1909 , nothing  much is known regarding his life, and both her daughter and son died quite young. She continued teaching at Egryn chapel Sunday school and held occasional prayer meetings.

Mrs. Mary Jones died in 1936, and was buried in the Horeb cemetery at Dyffryn, I have  recently tried to locate the gravestone but with no success to date) Shown is a photo of the tombstone taken around 1984.

Above: Egryn in 1905.  Right: Egryn chapel as it is today. The photograph was taken by myself on the 8th August 2001. As you can see, the Chapel is  in pretty good shape after 150 years, but the interior is in need of repair. There are  signs that renovation is in progress. (see above)  Egryn Chapel is located approximately one mile south of Talybont village. All photo's here were taken by myself with the excellent Sony Mavica FD 85
Above: 3rd right, Egryn Chapel from the field looking South.  Far right: Interior of Egryn Chapel today. It was quite eerie looking in, but the atmosphere though I found to be very good, and quite calming. I somehow feel that it was a good place to be on a Sunday.
