Gds File Revision History

Gds File Revision History allows you to retrieve old version of a file, with a simple mouse click !.
The plug in adds a new entry on the right click menu on Excel, Word, Power Point and any file type you want to which allows you retrieve the cached version of the file in Gds.

Note that the Gds doesn't store pictures, therefore the cached version of the file does not contains pictures, but only text. Also note that the plug-in retrieves the cached version of the file by searching Gds with the filename, in few situations this does not allows to identify the actual file, in such case the plug in will not be able to display the history.

Installation

The Plug-In requires the following software :

  • Windows XP with Service Pack 2
  • Office 2003 (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Gds Version 1 or 2

It also requires administrator privileges and the .NET framework from Microsoft. If the .NET framework is not installed on your system it will prompt you for the installation, since it is free. To install the plug in here are the steps to follow :

  • Download the installation file GdsFileRevisionHistorySetup.zip.
  • Extract the file 'GdsFileRevisionHistorySetup.msi' and save it on your hard drive. Double click on it and follow the instruction for the installation.

You are done !. Now right click on any of the file supported (for instance a .ppt file ) and you'll see that a new entry have been added to the menu 'Gds Revisions' click on it and you'll see the list of previous revision of the file which have been indexed by Gds. See the help page for more information. By default the plug in is enable for the following file types :

  • .csv
    		•

    If you want to enable for more file type use the Setup Panel clicking on the icon on your desktop.
