Viva La Rock

On Thursday Sept. 22, the Associated Students of UCI presented ?Dunn and Don Vito?s Rock Night? in Aldrich Park featuring members of the show ?Viva La Bam? and Los Angeles-based hard rock band Open Hand.

The night, which started an hour late, seemed well-received by a large audience in the middle of the park. The crowd was the largest for the ?Viva La Bam? guys? preshow antics, which included eggs, beer bongs and toe licking.

At about 7:30 p.m., Aldrich Park was filled with hundreds of kids, many of whom were centered around the side of the stage, desperately reaching to get a look at Don Vito of ?Viva La Bam,? sitting on a chair in a tent and drinking beer.

Just as eager audience members hoped that the show would start, a crazy looking traveling light in the sky displaced the crowd. Surprisingly, most of the concert crowd quickly fled to higher ground, like cult members spotting Haley?s Comet, to take pictures and wonder what the hell was going on.

Luckily, the light in the sky, a satellite launched by the military that took advantage of the time of day to create a light show, began to fade, students got bored and they slowly filed back in front of the stage to wait more for the show to start.

Though the tour has been advertised as ?Dunn and Don Vito?s Rock Night? featuring three bands from Trust Kill Records, the reality of the performance was slightly different. Ryan Dunn, Bam Margera?s sidekick on a MTV reality series, was not to be found at the show and was instead replaced by the next down on the ?Viva La Bam? power chain, Raab Himself, a raspy-voiced and entertaining emcee who led the preshow antics.

Around 8:00 p.m., Raab Himself came on stage to much awaited applause from the audience. Raab proceeded to do a beer bong as the antsy crowd cheered him on, before imploring two audience members to come on stage for a blindfolded beer bong race.

There was a catch, of course. Unbeknownst to the competitors, the beer bong was filled with what looked like milk and some sort of laxative. Furthermore, as explained to the competitors before the race, the loser would receive a swift kick to the groin by an attractive female audience member.

Foolishly, one of the competitors jumped the gun and started the race before he was told, forfeiting his chance to win, and the audience cringed as a magenta-streaked brunette offered a swift kick to the loser who was held back by highly amused Raab. In equally humorous and malicious tradition of ?Viva La Bam? and ?Jackass,? the winner was also held back as he too received the same punishment from the same confident female kick.
