The Virginia Journal of Linguistics and Communication Sciences is currently accepting submissions of scholarly works relating to our various fields of interest for the spring semester of 2004. To learn more about the various topics across which our Journal spans, [click here].
Rules for Submission:
1. Original Works: The submissions must be original works of the author or authors who submit them. Previous scholarly works (i.e., works previously submitted for a grade) may be submitted (and authors are encouraged to submit such works), so long as a proper note is made of what course and/or program the piece was originally written for.
2. Rules of Copyright:If using copyrighted material (quotations, tables, illustrations, etc.), the author is responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright holder.
3. Appropriate Authors: Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in the Virginia Journal of Linguistics and Communications Sciences; however, special consideration will be and is given to active members of the University of Virginia community - faculty members, affiliated staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and fellows of the University.
3. Compensation: The Journal currently has no mechanism to compensate authors for their submissions, nor do staff-members recieve any payment for their services. The Journal is a completely non-profit organization, and maintains a budget only insofar as to expedite publications each season.
4. Post-Publication Rights: The purpose of the Journal is to encourage research pursuits in the realm of linguistics and related fields, and not to hinder the author’s ability to publish their work in other relevant journals. After publication in the Journal, the author reserves the right to present any part of their research in any form in other publications or proceedings.
5. Submission Sizes: Submissions may be of any size, but longer pieces will be more stringently edited for length by the editorial board.
6. Submission Formats: Submissions that are sent to the Journal's staff via email should be in Microsoft Word format. If the author does not have Microsoft Word or regular access to a computer, contact may be made with the staff at ph: 434.243.2109, or [via email].
7. Submission Content: While the Journal's staff encourages submissions from all fields of scholarly work, our main interest is in those articles that appeal to one of our [fields of interest].
8. Introducing Submissions: Each manuscript submitted for publication should be preceded by an introductory abstract of some sort. There are two appropriate ways to introduce a submission: either by filling out the brief form found at the 'Submit' page of this website ([click here]), or by sending an introductory letter of intent, to include a paragraph or so of summary of the piece, to any one of our [staffers].
