Ode To Danna

Is Venus frowning...?
Why is her beauty fading?
Monalisa's weeping!
She's no longer smiling.

"Why" I said, "are these happening?"
Cupid says, "I struck my bow,
and Danna's coming."

"Who is She?"  as I inquired.
"Beats me . . . !?" Cupid replied.

So I went around,
And questioned every man I found.
But no one dared speak a sound,
They too are lost and dumbfound.

Now, their silence is too deafening,
I could only hear the sound of my heart beating.

"Who is this woman?" I cried,
"I can no longer stand being mystified."
The goddesses too are frantic and petrified.
Something about her made them so terrified.

Then I heard a distant sound.
A thousand chariots pounding the ground!
Roundabout atop a small grassy mound,
A Lady so fair with shining knights all around.

Caught by surprise, I was aghast and breathless.
Now I know why the goddesses are restless.
She is a beauty --- breathtaking and flawless!

Then Cupid struck his arrow but missed the bow.
It hit me instead and struck me low.
"Why . . ." I said, "did you do that for?"
"I didn't mean to" he replied feeling very sore.

So I moved closer to where this Lady is,
But her knights won't let me,
for she's the king's misses.

They warned, "Don't even dare,
or you'll be in a lot of mess."
"Stay away and mind your own business."

So I hushed along, feeling helpless.
I blamed Cupid for his carelessness.
Now my heart is caught in a snare,
By the charm of this Lady so Fair.
The envy of goddesses' lair,
Is also causing me so much despair.

Lay me no blame!
Lay me no blame!
If too often I whisper her name.
I'm struck with Cupid's arrow
I'm stuck with nothing but Love's sorrow!
