The aim of
VOCA-Ethiopia is to improve food security by contributing to the development of
a healthy and vibrant agricultural economy founded on strong small-farmer
producers, and an integrated private market system.
Initial support for all of
VOCA-Ethiopia's work came through the ACDI/VOCA Farmer-to-Farmer program (FtF)
funded by USAID. FtF provides funding and logistical support for volunteer
professionals from the U.S. to lend their expertise to development programs
through training and direct technical assistance. Now, VOCA-Ethiopia's
programs have expanded to include not only individual FtF assignments but a
comprehensive Retail Program targeted at rural agribusiness development and
Agricultural Cooperatives in Ethiopia (ACE) which is developing farmer-owned
marketing cooperatives and rural savings and credit cooperatives. Through
each of these programs, VOCA-Ethiopia continues to utilize the expertise of
volunteer agricultural professionals to develop curriculum, teach skills and
provide direct technical assistance.
