So who came up with the idea?
Like many regular traveller, Don Aitchison found the constant whirring of extraction fans in hotel bathrooms a constant irritation.
After being told that fans are by regulation set to change the air in the room before switching off, a bit of thought was required to work out why every time you switched on the light, the fan came on again for about twenty minutes.
As you don't have a steamy shower every time you go to the bathroom, it had to be the lingering smell associated with the toilet that controlled why the fans operated. As the toilet bowl area is not large in comparison to a room, how to isolate and remove odours became the task of the day.
After working out the removal by making hand held contraptions, finding a manufacturer to make it was the biggest challenge. It was "can't be done" and "won't be done" etc. Then Don contacted the potteries and the rest is history.
The Voft system does not require twenty minutes, in some instances two or three is ample so the power savings are massive. Coupled with the knowledge that aerosol sprays are not really needed to eradicate odours the benefits of a Voft toilet speak for themselves - improve your carbon footprint!
