I.  Voices of Vets Meeting Dates for Spring 2001:
The schedule for Voices of Vets Spring 2001 meeting dates are:  Jan 17, Feb 14, and Apr 1.  All meetings will be held at 10:00 in a ROTC classroom next to the UNCP Bookstore.
II.  Byron Combs Visit:
If you are part of the VA/VR program, please make plans to visit Bryon Combs during the first part of December 2000.
III.  Joining Voices of Vets:
As of Fall 2000, Veterans make up 6% of the full-time student enrollment at UNCP.  We can be a powerful voice to pursue issues of concern.  We understand that your obligations go far beyond the classroom.  If you have not had a chance to join, now is the time.  With your support we can help all campus veterans in times of need.
IV.  Voices of Vets Certificate:
Please make sure to notify one of the board members that you are graduating.  As a Voices of Vets member you are entitled to receive a certificate of membership.  We will need your name (as you want it to appear on the certificate) and mailing address.  Certificate costs were included in your membership dues.
V.  Winston Cup -- NASCAR Fund Raiser:
The door of opportunity has opened to work as ticket takers, guides and observers at the Rockingham Speedway.  Racing season starts Feb 1st.  Details will be discussed at the Jan 17th meeting, please be there.
VI.  Voices of Vets Newsletter:
The Voices of Vets Newsletter is a new service.  The the growing population of Voices of Vets, our newsletter needs to grow with it.  We would like to have different sections of the paper to pertain to the differnt types of members--not be single minded focus.  If you or someone you know would be interested in assisting us, please contact any one of the board members.
VII.  Chapter 30 Pay Delays:
Chapter 30 (Old GI Bill) veterans are still experiencing delays in benefit payments for Fall 2000.  The Atlanta RPO is still backlogged.  Your file will remain in the queue unless you start making noise now.  Please contact Susan Chavis, Financial Aid and write a letter to the Atlanta RPO office.  In your letter use terms such as: "interest payments are building up" and "unable to pay other expenses."  To write the Atlanta RPO office, please address your letters to:
                                                       VA Regional Office
                                                       ATTN: RPO
                                                       P.O. Box 100022
                                                       Decatur, GA 30031-7022

Voices of Vets members have sent complaints about the Atlanta RPO to the NC Congressional delegation and the chairs of two Veterans Affairs Committees.  If you would like to add your letter to the case for a collective letter, please contact Steve Johnson.  He will need a brief description of your issue (how much you are owed, how long this issue has gone unresolved, etc.).  Please include all contact information.  You can contact Steve either on campus in the Business Building or via email: srjohnson@janrix.com.
