| Weekly UpdatesI have been keeping a weekly journal of our our renovation project on this web site. Click on the transfer page to check out the weekly updates and pictures. The Johnson Home Renovation Project – Has been declared a complete success. Plans were drawn and re-drawn and then finalized. We had the roof taken off and a new second story added up with 3 bedrooms, and an office and 2 bathrooms and a laundry room, and the attic finished off above that with 2 more bedrooms and a bathroom. We also added a wrap-around porch with 8 feet out from the front of the house and 6 feet out from the right side of the house. At the same time, we added a 12x22 Breakfast Room along half of the back of the house. We installed oak hardwood floors for all of the bedrooms, halls, stairs, the new Breakfast Room and the Kitchen. We took out the walls of Hannah’s old bedroom to expand the entryway and to put in the stairs to the addition. We also took out the wall between Tim and Liz’s former bedrooms to create a new Family Room. Finally, we had all of the current hardwoods re-finished to complete the project. I have wired the addition with Cat-5 for our home computer network. I have already completed setting up Windows 2000 PCs for Tim, Liz, and Margaret/Paul and a Windows 2000 Server and connected all 4 via a hub. Next is adapting the 2 old Pentiums for Hannah and Suzy with the new Windows/Millennium Edition. So from about December 26th through the end of March (or so), our house was a construction zone, but now we should have plenty of space. We took through the end of May to settle in and finish off some minor work. Finished all the myriad of decisions: … Trex or Brock decking for the porch (Trex) Trex - The Deck of a Lifetime … Andersen or Patriot windows (Andersen) Andersen Windows … colors for the siding and shutters and roof (White, Black and Grey) … styles for the fans in the bedrooms, office, and breakfast room (Hunter) Hunter Fan Company
…15 or 30 year mortgage (closed on 15 year at 7%) LendingTree - When banks compete, you win! … and on and on… And where are we going to put all that 16 years of junk accumulated in the attic ??? Well, 4 minivan loads of empty cardboard boxes were recycled. The "Wonder Chair" went to the Hope House....
