Organizing a Bachelor Party
If you are a best man for the first time and have never been to one, organizing a bachelor party can look like a daunting task. You have people to invite, entertainment to organize and food to order. For someone that has never done any of those things before, suddenly being thrust into the role of having to organize something that is supposed to be one of the most memorable nights of a person’s life can be extremely difficult to do. Toss in the fact that the groom is probably a very close friend of yours and you have a situation that can escalate into a nervous nightmare!
Don’t worry though; there are resources available that can help you. After reading this article you should have a basic idea of what you want to do with the bachelor party, and after that things only get easier.
Who to Invite
This is probably the easiest thing to figure out, but it still deserves to be mentioned. The guest list at a bachelor party should be numerically in between the guest list at the wedding itself and the guest list at a normal party. Every single person invited does not have to be a close friend of the groom, but should know him reasonably well. Keeping in mind that most bachelor parties have adult entertainment at them, minors (people under the age of 19, or 21 in some places depending on the law) are a concern as well.
Use your judgment when planning the guest list, based on what you know about the groom and his friends, and you should be fine.
The Entertainment
Sexuality is a big part of bachelor parties. Almost all of them have adult entertainment in one way or another at them, and in North America especially that kind of entertainment is popular because it symbolizes the groom’s last night as a single man. Night clubs and strip clubs are the best places to hire adult entertainers, although sometimes they can be found by flipping through your local phonebook.
Modeling agencies which specialize in a specific type of model (i.e. a bikini model) are almost never good places to search for entertainment for your bachelor party and in most cases will be extremely offended if you even ask. It is best to avoid these types of organizations unless you’re desperate and have not found someone anywhere else.
Food to Serve
Bachelor party food is analogous to normal party food. Fancy dinner dishes are not appropriate. Snack food like nachos, cheese sticks and garlic bread are popular snacks for bachelor parties, and when they’re served along with beer and pop make a good snack bar for the party.
If the party takes place during a meal (such as dinner), something like pizza is a good idea. One thing to keep in mind is that people usually aren’t too fussed about the fare at a bachelor party; they’re just looking to have fun. Pizza, or burgers, or some other kind of party entrée would be the most appropriate thing to serve.
The main thing to keep in mind when organizing a bachelor party is that it
is an easily achievable goal, provided that you plan ahead and tackle it in
a logical manner. Don’t panic! Remember that by electing you to be his
best man, your groom has already shown confidence in your abilities. Organize
a light-hearted and fun party with good food and snacks, and everyone will
leave happy.
