I have liked Type 2s for as long as I can remember, I like the character that they bring to our mundane roads. But I never really thought that I would own one for many years if at all. About fours years ago I took a gap year between A-levels and University to travel around the world, to fund this I worked for six months. Naturally I was feeling richer than ever before and when I heard about this van for sale I bought it on the spur of the moment as I reasoned that I would not feel so well off for a long time. I trailered it in the middle of the night the hundred miles from Hemel Hempstead to Bournemouth arriving at 3am, giving me a 3 hours of sleep before driving back up to London to work.................. nightmare. Over the last years despite the van being in Bournemouth and me being anywhere but, it has come along steadily. After stripping it down completely I have done straightened the (relatively good) bodywork, rubbed it down, primed it, rubbed it down, tack ragged it, primed it , rubbed..... you get the picture. I removed all doors, interior parts (dash etc...) so as to get at all the shuts properly, I then sprayed all of these parts separately. In total I layed on five coats of primer and five coats of paint. The colour is VW L6E, I beleive it may have been a beetle colour. I have begun the re-assembly and can't wait to get cracking with the interior and the engine. What is it to be? leaded, unleaded, recon.. I hear so many different sides of the argument..... |
