Lynn's story

Received in 2006.

Aug 13, 2006: I'm a 51 yr old female in Kansas City. I was diagnosed with dyshidrosis a few years ago. The dermatologist gave me samples and prescriptions for all kinds of creams, etc... none of which cleared it up. More recently, April or May of this year, I went to my general practitioner with a yet another sinus infection brought on by allergies. I was looking for answers to prevent them because even though I was taking Zyrtec and using Flonase nasal spray I was still having a lot of problems. So he added Singulair to the regime. Here is where it gets interesting... As he was on his way out of the exam room I asked him to take a look at my hands. After examining them for a few seconds he said, "I think you will see that clear up, too, once you get on that Singulair." Then he left the room before I could ask him why that would be!

Well, interestingly enough, my hands DID CLEAR UP after I had been taking the Singulair for a week or so! AND THEY STAYED CLEAR until I ran out of Singulair. Three days without it and I was starting the cycle again with the itching, etc...! Also interestingly enough, now that I have refilled the Singulair and have been back on it again for a few days my hands are slowly starting to clear up!!! (It seems like they had to run the cycle once it had begun.) I have an appointment with this doctor again this coming Tuesday, and I can't wait to ask him about this!!!

Nov 28, 2006: I would like to post to the whole group but it has been so long since I signed up for the group that I have forgotten my user name and password! At any rate: after several years of dealing with all the cycles of dyshidrosis... blistering, peeling, cracking, bleeding, etc... I have finally been clear for about 9 months now. My doctor put me on Singulair for allergy and sinus problems and told me it would probably also clear up the dyshidrosis...and he was right!!!!! HOORAY!!!

More recently I went to see an alergist and I asked him why my hands cleared up after I started taking Singulair and he gave me an explanation having to do with allergies and I think the immune system...but I really can't honestly say what he said!

My doctor never said how long I would have to be on the Singulair, but I assume always because of my nasal allergies and sinusitis. I'll ask him next time I see him. :)
