Summary - Game 13

Monday, June 4, 2000

That evening, Wario gets a call at the radio station. A familiar voice asks how his parents are doing, and thanks him for not hanging around the dance clubs like he used to. Much more conducive to the drug business. And if he wants his parents to stay well, he'd better continue staying away. Caller ID shows the call came from a pay phone. Wario uses the call-back feature, and after a bit, a drunken man answers. Wario's able to get a general location of the phone, out near some clubs near the Northpoint Pier. He goes off shift, and heads over there in his car.

He doesn't spot Blacklight, or any drug dealers, but does come across playboy Juan Horatio Vallejo, who had alerted him to some drug dealing going on a few weeks back at the Flying Monkey club. The two chat for a while, with Juan offering Wario a drink. Wario politely declined, and asked if Juan had seen any more drug deals. No, sorry. Wario continues looking.

Not finding anything, he heads for his car, a vintage '69 Mustang, and gets in. Before he starts the engine, he spots a note under his windshield wiper, flapping in the wind. It reads, "Boo". Wario cautiously gets out of the car, and looks around underneath of it, suspecting a bomb has been planted. He doesn't see anything that's obviously a bomb. He asks some drunks if they'd seen anyone, but they claim not to. He calls the HQ, and asks for some help, and Angie (club hopping nearby) cruises out on Dynamo's motorcycle. She doesn't spot anything. Wario then turns to the drunks, and offers one $20 and a beer if he'll start the car for him. Shocked, Angie chastises him for his cowardace, and gets in and starts the car for him. And after it's purring nicely, accidentally/catastrophically sucks a large amount of power out of the electrical system, causing the battery to blow. She leaves Wario there with his immobile car.

Val (Wraith) and Amelia are having breakfast, and Amelia announces that she's been working on the school newspaper for Mr. Blackson, her journalism teacher. (She plans on becoming an investigative reporter). She'd like to interview Team America 2, and has told her teacher this shouldn't be a problem. Val's not happy that she committed herself before getting it cleared, but agrees to help out. The original TA did these sort of interviews all the time.

After the brawl at Ray's apartment complex, WGN, WOR and the Chicago Tribune contact the team's PR firm, Southerby & Long, asking for confirmation or denial of the allegations that Sgt. Ray Dawson is in fact Titan. Ray and the team discuss his options, and he decides it's probably best to come clean, and admit he's Titan. A press statement is released.

Ray's called into Capt de Silva's office, and given a dressing-down for not informing her of his decision first. Now she's got the Chief of Police on her ass asking if she knew of this, and if so, why she hadn't passed it up the chain?

Ray and Allie head to the stake-out of ex-CIA agent Greene, who appears to be working for El Muerte. (See Game 8) Sgt. Michaelson tells them that no activity's been reported, and none of the phone taps have picked anything up. Greene went into the apartment last night around 10pm, but hasn't come out. Ray and Allie decide to check it out, and have Michaelson watching the fire escape out back. They kick in the door to the small apartment, but Greene isn't there. Only a few items of clothes are left...he apparently left (somehow undetected) in a hurry.

Group prepares for the trip through the portal to Columbia, getting supplies. Angie acquires a personal forcefield generator for Jasper from Solomon Industries, and clips it to his collar. Finally, the minibus is ready, and the team sets off. As soon as they arrive, the check their GPS locator, and transmit those coordinates back to Belle in Chicago.

They compound is heavily guarded, and Wraith, driving the bus, ends up having to shoot the gate guard on the way in...he was drawing down on her when she didn't know the passcode. Inside, they find the grounds are heavily guarded by zombies and workers. Wraith drives the bus up to the front of the mansion, with Angie jumping out the back with Jasper on the way in. Cyrus teleported out and hovers above, so he can watch the battlefield. At the front door, Wario and Titan both kill two of the guards, using excessive force.

After neutralizing the remaining guards, and fighting the zombies to a standstill, the team heads into the mansion, and discovers a door leading to stairs heading into the ground beneath the mansion. The stairs seem very old, and very cold. Cyrus defeats several magical booby-traps on the way down, eventually leading the group to a largish room at the bottom of the stairs. Inside is a magical workshop, including a modern, high powered laptop computer, and a book apparently made of human flesh inked in blood. Both have spells on them protecting them. While trying to dispell the laptop's protective spells, something goes awry and the laptop starts smoking. The book, when Cyrus gets near it, causes his skin to crawl and the hairs on his neck to rise.

A powerful source of magical energy is detected behind a wall, and the team breaks it in. Inside is a small boy, whimpering. He's hovering in mid air, in the center of a pentagram. Five pillars, each topped by a crystal skull, face him, and power is being drawn from him into the skulls. The team destroy the skulls, and as they do so, El Muerte appears astrally projected, in a rage. "You FOOLS! You'll doom us ALL!".

The destruction of the skulls and rescue of the small boy appears to set off a chain reaction. Cyrus uses a TK spell, wrapping the Book of the Dead up in a cloth, and carrying it along behind him, while someone else grabbed the laptop, and Wraith carries the boy.

Leading the party, Wraith suddenly slumps to the ground. The boy is standing above her, looking down at the group. He says, "Because you set me free, I will spare your life this time. But do not think I will be so generous in the future. Now, the multiverse shall run green with ichor!". With that, he dissappears. The team gathers up wrath, and boogies upstairs, while the lab explodes, and the mansion collapses in upon itself. The three barack-like structures outside explode, but before one goes up a bestial human-shaped form can be seen fleeing at incredible speed towards the jungle.

Speed Demon, who had remained above ground, tells the group that he briefly inspected one of the barracks, and saw drug making apparatus. And the end of the barracks there was what appeared to be a crystal skull. It had started to glow with a lot of energy coming off of it, and he high tailed it out of the building just before it exploded.

The team hops back into their bus, and head back to Chicago via the portal. Belle tells them that the DEA has informed the Columbia government that satellites have picked up an apparent conflict at a newly spotted drug lord's compound, and that the Columbian's will be following up on it.

Getting ready for bed, Angie's taking a sponge bath, and gets the feeling again that she's being watched. She catches sight of the shadowy form of a man in her bathroom mirror, but when she looks out the door she can't see anyone. Nor does Jasper, sleeping outside the door, seem to sense anyone. She discovers that by concentrating, she can get a clearer look at the man, and it appears to be her biological father, Jake Howard --Dynamo.

Cyrus relays word of the events in Columbia to Kartakas, and asks that they send someone out to pick up the Book of the Dead.

Wraith gets word from Lt. Anderson that JANUS is the most likely suspects in the kidnapping of Cyrus' sister, Marie Bergeret.

Liberty Belle informs the group that the US Navy will be dropping sensing bouys into the lake, in an effort to spot the JANUS submarine.
