April 19, 1995: Reverend WN Otwell

This transcript may be refined further, but should be fairly accurate.

Pam Hawkins: Ah, this is Pastor Otwell- He's to give the opening prayer- And, ah, obviously we can't say a pledge because we don't want to, to raise the flag- we have several- in the rain, we want to pay respect to the flag. But, um, uh, Reverend Otwell, would you please, ah, open the prayer, and whatever.

Yeah.

Well, it's certainly good to be here, today. You know how preachers are, they're always put up somewhere praying or pledging. But, uh, God called me to preach- And we stood. We was here five weeks, in Waco. We watched the first sheet come out the window. We was on the media site for two weeks. We stood against the ATF, BTF, FBI, we stood here with our men five weeks. Filled our lives at one occasion.

But I believe we stand here today all of us with blood on our hands, folks, listen to me. We're not here innocent today. I think we ought to build five, I think I want to erect five monuments- and memorialize 'em every year- Just like we do, we come here every year; I was here last year. And this is what I wrote off, what the Lord told me to write.

We need to erect here, at Mt. Carmel, five monuments to memorialize: treason- murder- hypocrisy amongst the American people- cowardice of the people- wimpish men who wear lace on their drawers- including most preachers. We're here with our Texas militia- and I'm not against it. I believe in carrying guns. But it don't mean nothing, if we're not going to stand. I'm tired of hearing what Patrick Henry said and John Paul Jones said. I'm tired of books and tapes and great speakers. This nation's going to hell because of great speakers, and pimps for politicians. The Patriots of America who quote John Paul Jones, "Give me liberty or give me death," did nothing. I stood here five weeks and met no preacher- no politician- Ann Richards included, Jack Brooks, Phil Gramm, Bob Dole [Yeah], Lloyd Bentsen, Bill Clinton- I spent twenty-something days in jail trying to keep that pervert from being President, and I'm not trying to be here to rail on him. But we stand here today, ourselves, as a monument of cowardice, when we stood here in this nation and watched these people burn. [Right] And we did nothing! Thousands of people could have marched down here, over the BTF, with courage, and we could have stopped this, but we didn't. And so we here today are not, not without guilt, we're not innocent. So let's don't stand here today proud, as if we're doing some great thing. This ought to be a reminder of just how sissified we really are in America, and I'll tell you that the men- what we need in America, is a revival of men! And, and put this bunch of pimp politicians that's only interested in special interest groups out of Washington! [Yeah] And get the men like Bill Clinton, who is nothing but a, a whore-mongering, uh, pe-, pervert who claims to be a Christian. And get the lesbian Janet Renos out of office. [Yeah! All right! applause Yeah!] And stop pledging allegiance to the flag, if we're going to be hypocrites! Amen! You may not like that, but you can lump it.

I should have went over that fence- I was asked why I didn't go in. And I stand here today with my conscience twisting me every day, because, I should have went across that fence, and if I had to, laid my life down and to try to stop what went on here, but I did nothing but- I stood, but I didn't stand strong enough. So when you get up here today, and you speak, I don't care who you are, whether you're a lawyer, whether you're a Ph.D., or who you might be or what you're here with. You just remember, you did nothing either. Now we can talk and run our mouths, and we can come over here and memorialize and monumize or what we want to do. But we're as guil- guilty, as Bill Clinton. And Janet Reno, because we did nothing. And preachers of America need to repent of their little, teeny-weeny preaching. God give us some men! Get the lace off your drawers! [Yeah!] Be a man! [Yeah!] Quit letting the National Organization for Women and the feminist movement, play us down, bless God. Stand up and be a man! And see, now I'm growing a beard. I got tired of going to the bathroom every time I went somewhere across this nation, and have to pull my britches down and show somebody I was a man. So I grew me a beard. Amen? All right!

[Pam Hawkins comes up. Mr. Zimmerman's going to have to leave shortly.] That's right, I've got to- I drove three hours, amen, I'm just as important as he is, I'm getting off, I'm going to pray. (turns again to Hawkins) Mr. Zimmerman didn't do any more than I did! Was Mr. Zimmerman here standing? I'm talking about standing!

So we can stand here today with our hypocrisy, but we're not without blood on our hands- you, many?millions? of people are in the same shape we're all in! We're all guilty! We all watched it! Amen. Hypocrisy! And I don't mean to be mean and ugly- but it's time we get the lace off our underwear in this country and stand up and be men. Quit carrying a gun around, and quit calling yourself a militia, if you don't mean business! Quit being a hypocrite! Amen! Lip service.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Whom this nation was founded upon, one nation under God- not one God under a nation- but one nation under God! Thank you, Lord, that you established this great country, for God-fearing people, so that we could raise our children like you told us we could and build our lives like you told us we could. And You give us the great Constitution, so that it would guarantee our right, our rights, the unalienable rights that You gave us. But God help us today, and have mercy on us for being wimps, and sissies, and gutless, and cowards, for not maintaining what our forefathers, and You gave us, dear Lord. Bless us today and help us. And, God, help us let this be a day of remembrance to remind us, what happened here, two years ago. The great tragedy, one of the worst tragedies to ever happen in this country. But God give us men and women- and young people- that'll take courage and stand up and get the lace off! And be men; like we ought to be. And stand with courage; stop us from speaking and just writing books and making tapes and making money. Off of people's lives. But stand up and be men; like we should be. Lord, help us today; help every speaker to speak, with courage and fire! And with truth, and honesty, and not hypocrisy. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. God bless you, militia. [Yeah! applause]

Pam Hawkins: I hear that, I hear that! I, I know, I am so angry! Uh- when they reinstated those two ATF agents, I, I took out a half-page ad in the Tribune-Herald protesting it. And there's a lotta anger out there and there's really a reason for it. Um, I want to encourage you all- there's a lot of anger on the other side. So we all need to remember where we're coming from and the name that we pray in, and the Prince of Peace, and a wise man said to me the other day, Mr. A. Jenkins, I want to give him credit for this, when I was, um, telling him, "I want punishment, I want everybody punished," and he said, "Well, Pam, remember how Abraham Lincoln- remember what he said after, uh, after- at the Gettysburg Add-, Address. 'With, uh, malice toward none and charity toward all.'" We got to come together, people, we have to come together. There's a lot of anger on the other side. And I encourage you, to reach deep inside your heart, your soul, and get in touch with the source, that, that many of you invoke. And, uh, let us be an example. And I thank you Reverend Otwell for such, such devotion. I thank you for such, such, such commitment. And I, I just- I love you all. And we- love is the most powerful, the most powerful, uh, weapon in the world. And right- we need to, start to heal this nation...
