Can you think up a name for a campaign to crack down on vehicle crime?

Lincolnshire Police are running a competition to name this year's countywide campaign, which aims to reduce the number of vehicle crimes, particularly thefts of and from vehicles.

Last year there were 3331 vehicle crimes in the county. Lincolnshire Police are aiming to reduce this in 2001 through a high-profile campaign. The campaign will include initiatives such as highlighting auto crime hotspots and using CCTV to monitor those areas, displaying warning signs in public places such as car parks and targeting known offenders.

Detective Superintendent John Tapley, Head of Community Safety for Lincolnshire Police, said: "This is a community campaign which relies on the public's co-operation and vigilance for its success. "That's why we are looking for a member of the community to come up with a new name for this campaign.

" We need the public to take on board the message about car security and make sure they take the appropriate measures such as removing all valuables from their vehicle before leaving it, making sure they lock it and parking in a patrolled car park if possible.

"Simple preventative measures like these can help us reduce the number of incidents of vehicle crime.

"We are confident the public can come up with a name which will drive home what the campaign is all about in a succinct, catchy way."

The campaign, previously named Operation Carriage, will run from May 1 until September 30 2000. The competition, sponsored by Halfords, Tritton Road, Lincoln is open to all age groups. The winner will receive a VIP day with Lincolnshire Police as well as £100 worth of Halfords vouchers to be spent at the Tritton Road store.
