Chapter Four
Wade stormed into the house and slammed the door.
Tawny walked into the front hall.
“Hey sweetie.” She said. “Guess what?”
Wade immediately fell into Tawny’s arms.
“Wade?” she asked rubbing his back. “What’s wrong?”
Wade gave a short laugh. “Everything.”
Tawny didn’t say anything.
Finally Wade broke the silence.
“They hired someone else.” He mumbled.
“What? But you had that gig in the bag.” She said.
“That’s what I thought.” He said stepping back from Tawny.
“Well, that’s alright. The new *NSYNC tour is starting in a couple of months.” She said trying to make him feel better.
Wade nodded. “Yeah, but in the meantime expenses just don’t stop.”
Tawny was quiet.
“I think I’ll go say hi to Kaylee and then go lay down.” He said.
“Okay.” She replied as he kissed her cheek and headed upstairs.
He turned back around. “Did you want to tell me something?”
Tawny shook her head. “It can wait.”
Wade nodded and continued climbing the stairs.
“We’re just having a baby.” She said to herself.
The Next Night….
“What’s the point of this party again?” Wade shouted to Tawny over the blaring music.
“It’s Emma and Justin’s anniversary.” She screamed back.
“So why are they throwing a party? Isn’t an anniversary something you celebrate quietly?” he asked.
Tawny shrugged. “This is Emma and Justin we’re talking about. You don’t know what to expect.”
“Hey kids.” Annie, Tawny’s friend and JC’s girlfriend, said.
“Hi Annie.” Tawny said. “Long time no see.”
Annie nodded. “You’re right. How are you feeling? Emma said you were kinda under the weather.”
“I’m fine. Just a little bug.” Tawny said quickly. “Where’s JC?”
Annie shrugged. “Talking to some producer or something. You know him and his music.”
Tawny was about to reply when suddenly the music stopped.
“Excuse me everyone! I have an announcement to make.” Justin said.
Everyone stopped talking.
“Thanks. First of all, Emma and I are very glad that you could come tonight. It means a lot to us to be with our friends. Now before we get back to the party I have one more thing to say.” Justin said.
Tawny smiled. She knew what was coming.
“Why are you so smiley?” Wade whispered.
“You’ll see.” She replied placing his hand in hers.
“Emma, come up here.” Justin said.
“What…” Emma whined as she walked toward Justin.
“Just come here.” He said bending down on one knee.
Emma looked at him warily. “Are you okay?”
“I remember the first time I met you. You weren’t like any woman I had ever known. You didn’t try to kiss up to me, in fact you did the exact opposite.” He said laughing. “But then you gave me a chance and well, it’s been four years.”
“Justin. What’s going on?” Emma asked.
“I guess I’d better stop babbling and get to the point.” He said.
Justin took Emma’s hand with his left hand and pulled a little black box out of this pocket with his right hand.
“Emma. Will you marry me?” he asked.
Emma put her hand over her mouth. “Justin if you are joking I swear to God.”
He shook his head. “Is that a yes?”
“Uh-huh.” She replied. “I mean yes.”
Justin put the ring on Emma’s shaking hand and they embraced.
Everyone cheered.
“You knew.” Wade said.
“Yeah. Justin needed me to help him pick out a ring.” She replied.
“And you didn’t tell me?” he asked.
“I was sworn to secrecy.” She said.
“Since when have you been good at keeping secrets?” he asked.
“You’d be surprised.” Tawny replied.
