Chapter Nine

Lorelai tried to open her eyes but did not meet with success. After blinking several times she finally opened them. As her eyes adjusted to the morning sun she realized that Adrienne and Caitlin were sleeping on the floor.

‘What are they doing here?’ she thought to herself.

Then she saw herself in the mirror. Her hair was matted to her head, her entire face was tear-stained, and her eyes were blood-shot. It all came flooding back to her. Talking to Wade, seeing Justin, her crumbling to the floor. Adrienne stirred and realized Lorelai was awake.

“Hey.” She said.

Lorelai half-smiled. “You didn’t have to sleep in here.”

Adrienne shrugged. “That’s what friends are for.”

“Well, thanks. I think I’m going to clean up.” Lorelai said getting out of the bed and heading into the bathroom. As she washed her face she thought about the events of the night before. So much had changed in just a few moments. It was pretty obvious that Lorelai couldn’t remain on the tour, but how could she just leave. She had put so much effort into this show, but she knew what she had to do. She left the bathroom and sat at the desk in the room. She turned on her computer and began typing her resignation letter.

“Coming.” Wade said as he walked to the door. “Lorelai?”

“Here.” She said handing him an envelope and walking away.

Wade tore open the envelope and examined the contents. “Lorelai, get back here. You can’t just quit.”

She turned back around. “What else can I do? I can’t stay here.”

“I’ll leave. I’ll resign. This is all my fault.” He said.

She shook her head. “It takes two people to kiss. You’re staying, I’m leaving.”

“No, I can’t let you do that.” Wade told her.

“Wade, you’ve been working with *NSYNC for a long time. If you left this tour it would be like committing career suicide.” She said.

“So you’re just going to leave? That’s it? What about us?” he asked her.

“Just forget you ever met me okay?” she replied walking away.
