Chapter Five

Wedding Countdown: One month

“This is eerie.” Deanne said to Alexis.

“How so?” she asked.

“I never thought I’d see the day Jennifer would be opening presents that contain baby clothes and little stuffed animals.”

“Yeah I know. I also remember the three of us agreeing that no babies would be allowed in our gothic mansion.”

Deanne laughed and Jennifer gave her a puzzled look.

“Do I need to separate you two?”

“No teacher, we’ll be good.”

Jennifer smiled and continued opening her shower gifts.

“I would like to personally thank you for not making us play any lame-o party games.” Deanne said to Jennifer as she and Alexis helped her clean up the house.

“I aim to please.” Jennifer said.

Deanne’s cell rang.

“Excuse me. Hello.”

“It’s me.” Dan said.

“What’s up?”

“Can we boys come back now?”

“Yeah, banishment is over.”

“Cool, we’ll be over in a few.”

“Okay, bye.” Deanne said hanging up the phone. “The guys are on their way.”

“Alright.” Jennifer said. “Looks like were done here.”

“Yea.” Alexis said falling back on the couch.

“So Deanne…any new wedding drama?” Jennifer asked.

“Yeah, you haven’t made any pirate noises lately. Is everything all good?” Alexis asked.

“Actually yes. The invitations are fixed, my dress has been found, a DJ has been hired, and I picked out new flowers. It’s smooth sailing from here.” Deanne said happily.

“Good to hear.” Alexis said.

“Yeah, it doesn’t seem like you could have handled much more.” Jennifer added.

The front door opened and Matt, Dan, and Josh walked in.

“Ohh…are all these presents for me?” Matt asked.

Jennifer held up a sleeper to Matt’s chest.

“I think you’re a little too big.”

The group of friends laughed and Jennifer showed off the rest of the new presents.

“This is going to be one well dressed kid.” Dan said.

“Indeed.” Jennifer replied.

“Yeah, let’s just hope the baby looks like Jen and not Matt.” Dan joked.

“Ohh…harsh.” Josh said.

“Yeah, and let’s hope Deanne doesn’t beat you to a pulp when you tell her what you did today.” Matt said.

Deanne turned to Dan.

“What is he talking about?”
