Chapter Seven

Wedding Countdown: One week

“It’ll be okay.” Alexis reassured her.

“Yeah, it’s easy to fix.” Jennifer said.

“Umm…guys my hair is green. I don’t think it’s okay.” Deanne said.

Deanne was at the beauty salon getting her hair done so she could be sure that this was the style she wanted. The beautician decided to highlight Deanne’s hair and because of a mix-up her hair was now an unnatural shade of green.

“Hey ladies.” Dan said as they walked into Deanne’s house. “What’s up with the hat sweetie?”

“Come here.” She said pulling Dan towards her.

“What?”

“Take the hat off.”

“Okay.” He said removing the hat from her bed. “Oh my.”

“I know. Think it will photograph okay?”

Ashley, who had arrived earlier that day, walked into the hallway.

“Hey Deanne…oh my God!”

“Hey Ash…what do ya think?”

“Was that supposed to happen?”

Deanne nodded her head vigorously.

“Oh, definitely. Just like how you really married that sixteen-year-old fan of yours.”

“Hey, I didn’t know what the deal was there.”

“Obviously.” Jennifer coughed.

“Come on girls.” Deanne said as Jennifer and Alexis followed her upstairs.

“What are you three doing?” Dan asked.

“Playing beauty shop.” Alexis said flashing a box of hair dye at the boys.

“Wanna come Ash? It’ll be fun!” Jennifer called out.

“So then I was like this is it!” Jacob said. “It was like an awakening.”

“Yeah, like an awakening.” Janie echoed.

“Well put Janie.” Jacob said.

Deanne rolled her eyes and stared down at her plate. Dan elbowed her in the side and gave her a look.

“I didn’t say a word.” Deanne whispered.

“But I know what you were thinking.” Dan whispered back.

Deanne sighed and turned her attention back to the conversation at hand. All of Dan’s band-mates had arrived so the whole gang had gone out to dinner.

“It’s going to be called ‘Feel My Pain.’” Jacob said, referring to the solo album he had been working on.

“The album?” Trevor asked.

“Yep, the first single is ‘Sixteen: Down and Out.’” Jacob continued.

Deanne couldn’t resist.

“Yeah, growing up at a compound in upper class San Diego must have been tough.”

“True that.” Jacob said.

“True.” Janie echoed.

“Excuse me.” Deanne said getting up from the table and heading toward the bathroom.

She heard two more chairs squeak behind her and knew immediately that it was Alexis and Jennifer.

“Awesome. Very ‘Ten Things I Hate About You.’” Jennifer said.

“I think I just laughed my left cancerous nut off.” Alexis said between giggles.

“Thank you and don’t forget to tip your waitress.” Deanne joked.

“Don’t say cancerous nut in front of Erik, he’s sensitive!” Jennifer said sarcastically.

“Isn’t sensitive just another word for…” Deanne started.

“Sexual innuendo!” Alexis exclaimed.

The three girls giggled uncontrollably.

“We’d better get back.” Deanne said regaining her composure.

“Yeah, I’m curious about Jacob’s second single.” Alexis said.

“It’s probably something like ‘Angsty Monkey’ or something.” Jennifer quipped.

The girls looked at each other and started laughing all over again.
