Chapter Nine

Wedding Countdown: 4 Hours

“Hello.” Jennifer said into the phone.

“Hey Jen, it’s Dan. Is Deanne there?” he asked.

“No, it’s kinda strange. She should have been back by now.” Jennifer said.

“I know. I tried her cell and she’s not answering.” Dan said.

“Well, I’ll tell her you’re looking for her when she gets back.” Jennifer told him.

“Thanks and tell her that we found a new place for the ceremony.” Dan said relaying the information to Jennifer.

“Okay, see you later.” Jennifer said hanging up the phone.

“Was that Deanne?” Alexis asked.

Jennifer shook her head.

“It was Dan. He and the guys found a new place for the wedding.” Jennifer explained.

“Oh good. Now all we need is the bride.” Alexis said.

“What do you mean you don’t know where she is?!” Dan exclaimed into the phone.

“I mean I don’t know where she is.” Alexis said into the phone. “She never came back from the salon.”

“Did you call the salon?” he asked.

“Indeed. They said she left awhile ago.” Alexis said.

“Do you think she’s okay?”

“I’m sure she’s fine. Maybe she just wanted some alone time or something.”

“Three hours before the wedding?!”

“I don’t know. I’ll call you when she comes back. Don’t worry.”

“This is ridiculous!” Dan said. “I’m going to find her.”

“How? You don’t even know where to look.” Erik said.

“I have an idea.” Dan said opening the front door.

“But…” Erik started.

“Just let him go.” Trevor said.

Deanne wandered up and down the aisles at Borders.

‘What am I doing?’ she thought to herself.

Everyone was probably beside them self with worry.

“There you are.” Dan said walking up behind her.

Deanne turned around.

“How’d you find me?”

“Cause when you’re worried about something you tend to roam around here for all hours.” Dan said.

Deanne smiled.

“Yeah.”

“So what’s going on here?” he asked.

Deanne sighed.

“I don’t know. I just kinda freaked out. When all the little dramas we went through were solved I thought everything was fine. But then the whole church thing…I got scared. Like those were all signs or something.”

“Deanne, those were just…well I don’t know what they were, but all that matters is that I love you and you love me right?”

Deanne nodded.

“And it doesn’t matter what happened in the past because that’s all over with. So why don’t we just look toward the future?” Dan asked.

“Okay.” Deanne replied.

“So then…” Dan started.

“Let’s go get married.” She said wrapping her arms around his neck.

Dan leaned down and kissed her.

Suddenly Deanne jumped back.

“You’re not supposed to see me!”

Dan rolled his eyes.

“I think we’re past worrying over superstition.”
