It Only Took A Minute
Chapter Seven

December 28, 2006

“Justin.” Allison said.

Justin didn’t move. She tried again.

“Justin.” She said a little more forcefully.

"Five more minutes Allie.” Justin mumbled.

Allison rolled her eyes.

“Get up Justin.” She shouted punching him on the shoulder.

Justin’s eyes opened and he jumped up.

“I’m awake, I’m awake!”

“Good morning sunshine.” Allison said with a laugh.

Justin squinted at her through half open eyes.

“What time is it?”

“Time for you to get up and take me to therapy.” She replied.

Suddenly Justin was awake.

“It’s 9:00! Oh man…I’m sorry.” He said quickly getting up. “I’ll be ready in five minutes.”

“Take your time. It’s only 8:30 and considering you no longer have your fro that cuts down your morning prep time.” Allison joked.

Justin nodded.

“You’re a regular comedian.”

“Don’t I know…now hop to it.” She replied.

“Can you feel that Allison?” Rick, her therapist, asked as he applied some force to her legs.

Allison nodded.

“Yeah, I can feel it.”

Justin’s eyes lit up.

“That’s great Allison. When’s your next doctor’s appointment?” Rick asked.

“Tomorrow.” She replied.

“Well if it’s okay with him I suggest you ditch the wheelchair and we’ll start you with a cane.” He told her.

“Really? I mean I’ve only been walking in therapy…barely walking at that.” She said.

“You’ll never progress if you don’t try.” Rick said.

Allison nodded happily.

“Okay.”

Allison sighed as Justin helped her into his car.

“Okay?” he asked.

She nodded and rested her head against the seat. Justin closed the door and walked around to the driver’s side.

“Are you hungry, do you need anything?” he asked.

“Actually do you think we could stop for some ice cream?” she asked.

“Of course. Whatever you want.” Justin replied.

The pair drove along silently for awhile.

“So do you need me to take you to the doctor tomorrow?” Justin asked.

Allison shook her head.

“You don’t have to…my mom will take me.”

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“Justin you’ve done so much for me already…you deserve a day off.” She said.

“Alright, if you’re sure.” He said. “We’re here.”

Allison looked out the window and saw the ice cream parlor.

“Yea! Ice cream.”

Justin gave her a funny look.

“How old are you twelve?”

Allison stuck out her tongue.

“Just help me out of the car dork.”

Justin climbed out of the car and helped Allison. The pair headed over to the counter.

“It’s December and the line is like forty feet long.” Justin commented.

Allison whipped her head around.

“Is the only thing you know how to do complain?”

Justin laughed.

“Indeed, it’s all part of my charm.”

Allison smiled.

“I sensed that.”

“Hey are you Justin Timberlake?” a woman standing a few feet behind the couple asked.

Allison gave Justin a look.

“Mr. Pop-star, I believe a teenybopper is requesting your presence.”

Now it was Justin’s turn to stick out his tongue and he then turned his attention to the woman.

“Next!” the person behind the counter called.

Allison realized he meant her.

“I’ll have a chocolate chip cookie dough cone and…” she paused. “A scoop of mint chocolate and orange sherbet in a cup.”

“Mint chocolate and orange sherbet in a cup?” the man asked.

Allison shrugged.

“My boyfriend’s a weird-o…what can I say?”

The man laughed.

“Whatever you want Miss.”

Justin walked up behind Allison.

“Did you order?”

“Yep. Your mint chocolate and orange sherbet is coming right up.” She said.

“Thanks…hey!” Justin said.

“Hmmm?” she asked.

“How’d you know what to order for me?” he asked.

Allison shrugged.

“I just did.”

“Oh…this is great!” He said. “Do you remember anything else?”

“No, sometimes I just remember things in spurts. Nothing substantial though.” She said.

“Oh.” He said softly.

“I’m sorry Justin.” She said.

“It’s not your fault. You’ll get your memory back when it’s time. It’s not like you can rush it or something.” He said.

She knew he was right, but she still felt awful.

“I know.”
