Chapter Four “Take Me Under”

‘Brilliant.’ I thought to myself. After Dan left my room last night I couldn’t fall asleep so stayed awake and I thought. How could I deal with this problem? Then it came to me. Pay-back! I would romance Dan until he fell in head over heels for me and then ditch him the same way he ditched me.

“Earth to Jordyn.” Trevor said waving his hand in front of my face.

I jerked back to reality. “Oh sorry guys.”

Trevor poked Ashley. “She’s distraught because I ate all the Fruitie Pebbles this morning.”

I laughed. “You boys are cereal fiends.”

“True that.” Dan replied.

“Okay, let’s get started.” I said. “Is everyone warmed up?”

“We’re ready to rock and roll.” Jacob said.

“Good. Now I’ll run through some ideas for the beginning, then we’ll talk about your ideas and then put them together. Sound good?” I asked.

Everyone nodded. I walked over to the stereo and the God-awful song came through the speakers. And I began to dance. At the chorus I stopped the song and looked at the guys.

“You rock.” Ashley said.

“Thank you, thank you.” I said taking a fake bow. “Now I need your input.”

For about an hour we worked through some new steps before stopping for lunch.

(Actually half the time, Jacob whined that me and the others were trying to make the dance routine too ‘poppish’ but I’ve learned to ignore him. Or as Erik calls it ‘nod and smile.’)

“We don’t have to eat cereal do we?” I asked as we headed to the basement of the studio for lunch.

“Yes, all cereal, all the time is our motto.” Dan replied.

I laughed. “I believe it.” I grabbed a sandwich, some chips, something to drink and sat down. And who should sit next to me, but Dan.

‘Time to put my plan into action.’ I thought. “So if I tell you something promise not to say anything to anyone?”

“Scout’s honor.” He told him.

“The song ‘Girl.’ I don’t really like it.” I said.

He looked over his shoulder. “I don’t either. We just kept it on the album so Jacob would shut up.”

“No offense, I like all the guys, but Jacob seems like a prima donna.” I said.

“Only about 20% of the time, the rest of the time he’s just a jerk.” He said.

I started laughing. “I’m going to tell him you said that.”

“I’m going to tell him you hate ‘Girl.’” He said.

“Fine. I’ll keep quiet. I value my life too much.” I said giggling.

Dan looked at me for a few seconds.

This was making me very uncomfortable, did he finally recognize me?

“What? Do I have something stuck between my teeth?” I asked.

“No. You just look really pretty when you smile.” He replied.

I blushed. “Thanks.”

‘Score one for me!’ I thought.
