Chapter Seven “Every Six Seconds”

The next night…

“Oh this is bad, this is really bad.” I said to myself as I paced around my room. “I’m not supposed to like him, this is bad.”

“Are you mumbling to yourself again?” Ashley asked walking into my room.

I choked out a laugh. “Yeah, you know me.

“Are you okay?” he asked. “You seemed kind of out of it at rehearsal today.”

Out of it?! That was the understatement of the century.

“Just a little tired, I guess.” I said lamely.

“So you don’t want to go clubbing with us tonight I suppose?” he asked.

“No, I’ll just chill here tonight.” I replied.

“Suit yourself. We’ll be back later.” He told me.

“Before midnight.” I said. “We have an extra long practice tomorrow.”

“Yes Mom!” Ashley said walking out the door.

After I heard the car pull away I ran to the phone and dialed Jena’s number.

“Hello?” she asked.

“I have a huge problem.” I said.

“Jordyn? What’s wrong?” she questioned.

“He planned a whole date for us and then he kissed me.” I said quickly.

“Dan? Isn’t that part of the plan?” she asked.

“Yes, but I wasn’t supposed to like it!” I told her.

“I told you this would happen.” She said. “Now what?”

“I’ve got to move the plan along faster than I thought.” I said.

“It’s only been a few weeks, will this work?” she asked.

“I have no choice.” I told her.

“You could tell him the truth.” She suggested.

“Umm…no! What would I say? Hey Dan remember me? The girl whose heart you broke in high school? Yeah, it’s been two years and I’m still bitter so when you didn’t remember me I decided to play you for a fool? I thought hey I’ll romance you until you fall for me and then break your heart the same way you broke mine? I said practically crying.

“Jordyn calm down.” She said.

I heard a noise, like someone was running down the stairs.

“I’ll call you back.” I said to her.

I ran out of my room and down the stairs.

“Hello?” I called.

I heard a noise in the living room and walked in there.
