“You…you heard me on the phone.” I asked quietly.
He nodded. “So I again ask, what the hell is going on?”
I took a deep breath. “Don’t you remember me?”
“Why would I?” he asked.
“Because we went to high school together.” I said.
“Jordyn, I went to high school with a lot of people and I don’t remember them all.” He replied.
“Think hard.” I said. “Picture a girl with really short brown hair and big glasses. Does the name Jordyn Johnson ring a bell?”
He looked taken aback. “Jordyn Johnson? I don’t understand.”
“ME! I’m Jordyn Johson!” I practically screamed.
“Your last name is Witherspoon.” He said.
“My parents got divorced. I changed my last name.” I said.
“Oh man.” He said. “I didn’t recognize you.”
“I guess since you forgot what I looked like you probably forgot what you did to me as well.” I said.
He shook his head. “That was the biggest mistake of my life. I should never have done that to you.”
“Too little, too late.” I said.
“Look everybody knew you had a crush on me. The guys on the team thought it would be funny if we played a joke.” He said.
“I’m still not laughing.” I said.
“I didn’t want to do it.” He told me.
“But you did.” I said.
“I was really going to meet you and tell you the truth, but the guys came to my house before I left and I couldn’t go meet you.” He said.
“You were?” I asked.
“Yes. Look, I didn’t even know you. I didn’t know you would be so upset. I’m sorry but that happened two years ago.” He said.
“Some hurt never goes away.” I said sadly.
“So the hurt would go away by you getting revenge? You were going to do the same thing to me?” he asked.
I nodded. “At the time it seemed like a good idea, until…”
“Until what?” he asked.
“Until I ended up really liking you.” I said quietly.
“You really like me?” he asked.
“Yes.” I said.
“Well, I really like you too, but..” He said.
“Too little, too late.” He replied leaving the room.
