Chapter 4

A week later…

“4231.” Makayla mumbled to herself as she drove down the street.

Someone actually ordered some candle sets and wanted them delivered.

“There it is.” Makayla said as she found the house. “Whoa, this place is huge.”

Makayla walked up the drive until she reached a large iron gate. She noticed a call box.

“Hello?” she asked pressing the talk button.

“Can I help you?” a voice asked.

“Delivery from White Candle Barn.” Makayla replied.

“Hang on.” The voice said.

Suddenly the gates swung open and Makayla headed to the front door. She raised her hand to knock, but the door opened.

“Hey Makayla.” Ashley said. “Come on in.”

“Ashley?” Makayla asked. “You live here?”

Ashley nodded. “Home sweet home.”

“Wow.” She muttered. “Are you a celebrity or something?”

“Not yet.” He said. “But soon.”

Makayla laughed. “I’ve been telling myself that for years.”

“Seriously, I’m in a band.” Ashley told her.

“Really?” Makayla asked.

“Ever hear of O-Town?” he asked.

Makayla shook her head. “Can’t say I have.”

“Ever watch ‘Making the Band’?” Ashley asked.

“Sorry.” She replied.

Ashley shrugged. “No big deal.”

“So…here’s your order.” She said handing him the box.

“Order?” he asked. “Oh right!”

Makayla looked at him warily. “Yeah.”

“Okay, I have a confession.” Ashley said.

“You do?” Makayla asked.

“I was kinda disappointed when you didn’t call me so…” Ashley started.

“So you ordered some candles and figured I’d deliver them.” Makayla finished.

Ashley nodded. “Actually, I kind of requested you.”

Makayla blushed. “I don’t know if I should be flattered or scared.”

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to freak you out.” Ashley said.

“Oh, umm…it’s okay. So you were disappointed I didn’t call?” Makayla asked.

Now it was Ashley’s turn to blush. “Well, yeah.”

“So…” Makayla started.

“She wants you to ask her out.” A voice said.

“Erik!” Ashley shouted. “Go away!”

“Jeehz Erik I told you to keep quiet.” Another voice said.

“Trevor!” Ashley exclaimed.

Two boys walked into the hall from the living room.

“Hey Makayla. I’m Erik.” The first boy said.

“And I’m Trevor.” The other boy said shaking her hand.

“Nice to meet you. Are you in the band too?” she asked.

The boys nodded.

“How many more of you are there?” she asked.

“Two.” A voice replied.

Makayla turned around and saw two more boys.

“I’m Jacob.” A boy with dreadlocks said.

“And I am Dan.” A tall dark haired boy replied.

“I see.” Makayla said.

“So now that you’ve met everyone.” Ashley said giving the boys a look.

“Oh, right. We’ve got to go do the thing.” Dan said.

“What thing?” Erik asked.

“The thing.” Trevor said. “Come on fellas. Bye Makayla.”

The four boys left the room.

“Sorry about that.” Ashley said.

“No big deal. Now I can say that I met the next big thing.” She said.

“Something like that.” Ashley replied.

“Well, I’d better get going.” Makayla said. “They need me back at the store.”

“Yeah, someone might come in. One being the operative word.” Ashley replied.

Makayla laughed. “So, see you around, I guess.”

Ashley nodded. “Sure.”

Makayla waited a moment. “Well, bye.” She said and began to walk out the door.

“Bye.” He replied.

Makayla walked outside and to her car.

Ashley shut the door. “That went well.” He mumbled to himself.

He looked down and noticed a notebook on the floor. Ashley picked it up and looked inside.

“Song lyrics?” he mumbled. This didn’t look like something the fellas would write. He flipped to the back cover.

“Property of Makayla Roberts.” He read.
