Chapter 5

“Makayla! You’re home.” Chloe exclaimed.

“Hey Chloe.” Makayla said walking into the living room. “I had the strangest day.”

“Sure you did. I figured out why Ashley looks so familiar.” Chloe said excitedly.

“Because he’s in some band called O-Town.” Makayla replied.

“Because he’s in a band…HEY! How’d you know?” she asked.

Makayla related the whole story to Chloe.

“So he didn’t ask you out?” Chloe asked.

“No, and I really thought he was going to.” Makayla said.

“So did you meet Dan?” Chloe questioned.

“Yeah, I met all of them. Why?” she asked.

“No reason.” Chloe said.

“Chloe.” Makayla said.

“Fine! I was watching ‘Making the Band’ today, that’s how I figured out who Ashley was, and…” Chloe said.

“And you thought Dan was a hottie.” Makayla teased.

“Well, yeah.” Chloe said.

Suddenly the phone rang.

“Hello?” Chloe asked. “Hang on. Makayla it’s for you.”

Makayla grabbed the phone from Chloe.

“Hello?” she asked.

“Hi Makayla. It’s Ashley.” He said.

“Oh, hey. Need more candles?” she asked.

Ashley laughed. “No, I actually have something that might interest you.”

“Really?” Makayla asked.

“Yes. You left your notebook here.” He told her.

“I did? It must have fallen out of my backpack.” She replied.

“Yeah, so how come you didn’t tell me you’re a songwriter?” he asked.

“You looked inside?!” she exclaimed.

“Kind of. I didn’t know whose book it was and I sort of glanced at what was written.” He said. “I’m sorry.”

“No, sorry I freaked. It’s just kind of personal stuff.” Makayla told him.

“I understand.” He said.

“Umm..I don’t have work tomorrow. Maybe I could pick it up.” Makayla said.

“Sure…we don’t have rehearsal until 2:00.” He said. “Why don’t you come over at like11:30, we could have lunch or something.”

“Sounds good to me.” She replied.

“Okay. See you tomorrow.” Ashley said.

“Bye.” Makayla said hanging up the phone.

“So?” Chloe asked.

“I think I have a date.” Makayla said.

The Next Day…

“Hey Makayla.” Dan said opening the door.

“Dan, right?” Makayla asked walking inside.

“Give the girl a prize.” Dan said.

Makayla laughed.

“Come have a seat. Ash should be down in a second.” He said gesturing to the couch.

“Ready Dan?” Jacob asked entering the room. “Hi Makayla.”

“Hey Jacob.” Makayla replied. “Where are you kids off to?”

“We’re just heading down to the studio a little early.” Dan said.

“Yeah, nothing too exciting.” Jacob replied.

“Sounds exciting to me, better than my job.” She said.

“Hey Makayla.” Ashley said walking into the living room.

“Hi Ashley.” Makayla replied.

“Well, that’s our cue. Bye guys.” Dan said as he and Jacob left.

“So…” Makayla started.

“Yeah.” Ashley said. “Hungry?”

“I could eat.” She said.

“Come into the kitchen.” He said.

Makayla settled onto a stool at the counter.

“Turkey or ham?” he asked her.

“Turkey.” She replied as he handed her a sandwich. “Thanks.”

He sat down next to her and gave her a can of pop.

“So what’s with you and cereal?” she asked.

“Excuse me?” he asked.

“It seems like you’re always eating cereal.” Makayla replied.

“Still lost.” Ashley said.

“There was a ‘Making the Band’ marathon on MTV last night.” She told him.

“And you watched it?” he asked.

“I was curious. Besides I think my roommate has a thing for Dan.” Makayla said.

“I see. So what’d you think?” he asked.

“I think you spend a lot of time in the shower.” She said.

Ashley blushed. “No, I’m just the only one they show in the shower.”

“Right.” She replied.

“Oh, I forgot.” He said getting up.

“Sure, change the subject.” Makayla teased.

“Ha, ha. No, I have to get your notebook.” He said.

“Oh, right.” She replied.

Ashley came back into the kitchen a few minutes later. “Here you go.”

“Thanks.” She said putting the book into her bag. “What’s this?”

“Something I was working on. Maybe you could take a look at it?” Ashley asked.

Makayla glanced down at the paper and realized song lyrics were written on it.

“Gee, you’re the musician I just like to mess around.” Makayla said.

“Please, I’d really like your input.” He said.

“Well, okay.” She said. “I don’t know how much help I’ll be.”

“Thanks.” He said.

Makayla glanced at the clock.

“I’d better get going.” She said.

“Yeah, I’ve got to get over to the studio.” He replied.

“So why don’t you come over sometime and I can help you with that song.” Makayla suggested.

“Okay, how about Saturday night?” he asked.

“It’s a date.” She replied.
