Dear Yehya Thank you very much for your fast reply to my e-mail. About your addresses - I sent my letter to the address on your "Wadi Rum Protected Area" leaflet, but it seems that address is out of date. Also, that leaflet gives the address for a website at www.rscn.org.jo but I have never managed to get it to work. > RSCN is working ...to > develop some regulations for the site, but untill > now they are not in the > final format. The reaseon for the ruomurs that we > tried to be participatory > in developing these regulations so local peole > represntative were consulted > about these regulations... > ...RSCN is working now on developing a comprehensive > managment plan for the > site, we expecte that it will be fnished by the end > of the year. I am very glad to hear that you have been consulting local people about the new regulations, and I hope that you would not be bringing in any new rules without their approval. However, I think that international visitors would also appreciate the opportunity to comment on the management plan BEFORE it is finalised. Is there anything which you could send me ? In the absence of official proposals, there are bound to be "rumours". > ...It will be allowed to camp and climb in the > protected area only in > desginated places... This statement worries me a lot ! What will be the "designated places" ? Please could you go into more detail about what is planned ? I think that you would leave yourselves open to a lot of criticism if you brought in these restrictions on camping and climbing without making any information available to regular visitors who come to Jordan to camp and climb in Wadi Rum. > Thank you for cantacting us, and i will always > answer your questions, and i would like to know more > about Wadi Rum form if that possible.. The idea of Wadi Rum Forum is to share information. I know that many people who are regular visitors to Rum are concerned about the plans for new rules and regulations. If you are willing to contribute your point of view and give information about your plans, this would be very welcome. I am still working on the web site, but I will send you the address as soon as it is finished, and I will certainly put on the website your answers to my e-mail If you had a draft management plan which I could put on the web site, it would be very useful, and give a concrete basis to the discussions. I look forward to hearing from you, and once again thanks for your prompt reply Sincerely Kate Ness |
