Whether you have a car in Japan, happen to be renting one or you just can’t resist mixing leisure driving with new places, then you should not miss the startling scenery and driving experience of these roads in Wakayama Prefecture, where you will find yourself before the vastness of the Pacific Ocean and the impressive hills of the Kii Mountain Range.
Route 480, Route 370
Enjoy the mountains, the forest and the curves as you negotiate your way through one of the most winding roads in Japan and Mexico (trust me on that one.) Also a favorite of Japanese bikers in the Kansai area. Keep in mind that passengers in the rear seat may get dizzy.

Excellent mountain and ocean scenery, small hidden beaches, fishing spots, cliffs and small islands on the horizon. At times a narrow road but inspiring scenery. A road map of the area is suggested if you want to explore the vicinity.
Coastal road between Shirahama and Shingu
Route 42
This is a coastal road with fishing spots and cultural and historic sites on the way, but the road itself is the main attraction. The combination of a cool road and the rocky coastal scenery makes this an ideal route for a day of cruising. Note: During the typhoon season (between June and September) you should check the weather reports frequently.
