Each orange box on the map corresponds to a location. They are also listed roughly from North to South in the sidebar to the right. Click on either the orange boxes or the listings to get more information.

You won't find much information about most of these places in guidebooks or on the internet. Nevertheless they are well worth a visit. If you know of any other "hidden gems" like these, please submit them.

Nanamagari Ichiba
An old fashioned backstreet market full of fresh, cheap food and colorful locals.

Koyasan
The World Heritage spiritual home of Shingon Buddhism.

Takao Mountain
A waterfall, hiking trails, excellent views and more.

Scenic Driving
Three great roads for a scenic drive.

Hikigawa
This river is perfect for swimming, kayaking and floating on a tube, as well as bridge and cliff jumping. Good campsites nearby.

Myoho/Nachi Kogen Area
A large, grassy park, serene temple, and giant roller slide. Excellent views of the ocean and surrounding towns. A great picnic spot.
