Mastop-H®The non antibiotic therapy
of mastitis
|
Mastitis in lactating cows is considered to be the most important veterinary problem in the world. Over and above the regretful consequences for the affected animal, the economic consequences are of huge proportions. According to the Kentucky University, the annual loss due to bovine mastitis to the USA economy is evaluated at US$ 2 billions. On that basis, it would seem logical to estimate the yearly loss at more than US$ 10 billions for the world at large. Antibiotic therapy is the most common remedy applied to lactating cows affected with infectious mastitis. Nobody is better placed than the Veterinary Doctor and the Dairy farmer to appraise and experience the growing limitations and the increasing problems of germ resistance associated with such therapy. The culling of affected animals is taking more and more prevalence in the management of the problem, compounding the economic and genetic losses. Sensible measures regarding the prevention of human usage of milk exposed to antibiotics are in place in the most modern countries. In the less developed parts of the world, the risks incurred by the consumer exposed to traces of antibiotics in the foodstuff cannot be underestimated. It is just good common sense that a consumer friendly alternative therapy offering proven efficacy and avoiding the inconvenience of antibiotherapy must be considered by the Veterinary Doctor and the dairy farmer when it comes to manage mastitis in the herd. To propose a comprehensive exposé on homeopathy is beyond the purpose of this communication. It suffices to state that we have been sensitized by the safety and the potential of this approach that, whilst disparaged by some, is gaining more and more credibility amongst those who accept to look and see before deciding whether to believe or not. Scientific documents with double blind series and cross-over studies prove that this approach constitutes a real alternative in determined pathological circumstances. Mastop-H is the remedy that we invite you to try in the treatment of clinical and subclinical mastitis. Obviously, the homeopathic approach to mastitis treatment requires the understanding of the manner the product works. Mastop-H is an immuno stimulator acting on the local defense mechanisms of the udder. After an intra-mammary injection of Mastop-H , the number of leukocytes in the affected quarter increases dramatically, proof of the products immuno stimulating properties. Clinical trials show that efficacy varies between 73% to 88% depending on the type of mastitis (acute, subacute or subclinical). It is essential that the treatment is stopped once a reaction is obtained whether appearance or disappearance of mastitis symptoms. There is no standard regimen like in the antibiotic therapy approach. Mastop-H is not bacteria specific. Its efficacy relies on its ability to stimulate the natural defense mechanisms of the udder regardless of the pathogen involved. Posology is simple. In clinical mastitis, inject Mastop-H twice a day through the teat canal of the affected quarter after thorough milking. Stop treatment as soon as the symptoms of mastitis disappear or if worsening of symptoms occurs. In subclinical mastitis, inject 1 syringe of Mastop-H in each infected quarter, twice at 24 hours interval. The Somatic Cell Count should reduce progressively and attain normal values after 10 to 15 days. Mastop-H leaves no measurable residue in the milk. The product is not indicated in cases of chronic mastitis. Mastop-H can be used in conjunction with antibiotics.
