Rupfus Anderson

Parents: James and Margaret Kirkbride-Anderson
DOB: 1876
POB: Morgan, County Ohio
DOD: November 14, 1945
Married: Oriesta "Ora" A. McNutt
DOB: April 24, 1883
Children: Marie b. 1906 Athens Co., Ohio
Carl L. b. 1913 Illinois

This was Oriesta's first marriage.  I believe they called her Ora. She's listed in the 1930 census as Ora. Rupfus'  name is also spelled differently throughout the census records. It's very hard to track him. When you read his obit farther on down, you will notice that of all the people listed, Marie was not in attendance. That makes me wonder if she had died before then.

CENSUS RECORDS:

6-17-1880 - Bristol Twp., ed. 38, Morgan Co., Ohio visit 171 line 47 - Ruphus was 4 years old and living with his siblings; Henry, 23, Hannah, 21, Oliver, 18, James, 15, John, 13, Alice, 11, Webster, 8, Edward 8 and his father, James 49. James was a farmer. Living next door was Elizabeth, 83, and Mary, 17. Elizabeth must have been Rupfus' grandmother (James' mother). I'm not sure who Mary is. She is listed as "g daughter" so I assume she is Elizabeth's granddaughter, but from which child? I believe Margaret, Rupfus' mother, died in childbirth with Rupfus. Her tombstone lists her date of death as 4-3-1876. Rupfus was born in 1876.

The 1920 (1-2-1920) Census lists Rupfus and Ora and children as living in Oblong, Crawford, Illinois. Rupfus is listed as being 43, Ora is listed as being 56, quite a bit older than Rupfus. Children are Marie, 12, and Carl,  ed. 41 Crawford Co, Ill. visit 414 line 5. Rupfus' occupation as of January 1920 Oil Field Worker, Driller

The 4-19-1930 Census has them moved back to Zanesville Dist. 42 Ward 3 Muskingham Co., Ohio visit 5 Spelled RUFUS. It seems Ora has gotten younger as now her age is listed as 46, while Rupfu is 53. Marie is no longer living with them or has died, and Carl is now 17. There are also neighbors named Anderson that I cannot yet place into this family. Names are William, 37 (1893), Hattie B., 39, Vernon W., 19, Clarence R., 13, and Mary K., 4 1/2.
