Whenever you see "Old Billy" , you'll know to follow him through "my" line of ancestors.

George Anderson is as far back as I have on my Anderson line. He was born in Maryland. His wife was Elizabeth b. 12-25-1795 - d. 7-16-1890 and she was born in Maryland according to the 1850 Census (23rd Sept). At this time George had past on. He wrote a will on 12-8-1837 and he is not seen on the future census reports.   Click here to read this will.

NEW INFORMATION!! 9-11-07
I received an email from a lady that gave me the following information:

Maryland Marriages 1667-1899
George Anderson
Elizabeth Saltkill
December 27th, 1814
County: Frederick
State: Maryland

In the 1840 Census for Ohio, Elizabeth Anderson is seen listed as living next door to a William Saltkill with others living in that house as well. It lists him as being born in Maryland.  Elizabeth was also born in MD and I believe so was George. I believe William was born in or around 1810. Elizabeth was born in 1795 so I would assume William to be her brother.

In the 1850 Census for Ohio, I see a William Saltkeld listed living in Morgan, Bristol, Ohio. It lists him as being born in MD, age 40, a farmer. Married to Sally, NY, age 36. Having children: Jacob, 14, John, 13, Ruth, 12, Jane, 8, Augustus, 6, and Margaret A., 4. He is listed as living just a few houses down from Elizabeth.

In 1860 William is living in Penn. Twp. Morgan Co., at age 55. Also in Penn is Zara C. Anderson age 47 b. abt. 1823 or so in Ohio.

9-11-07 Ancestry.com I found in the 1870 census Augustice (yeah, they spelled it that way) Salkeld, 24, Farm Hand. b. Ohio. married to Mary S., 23, Ohio, son William 3, b. Ohio. ALSO living at 134-126 is William Salkeld 67 b. MD., Farmer. Married to Sarah, 52, b. OH., and Nancy 14 b. Ohio.

Click here to see George Anderson's Tombstone

This tombstone, as you can see by clicking on his name, is incredibly worn. While visiting with Mr. Ray Dingey of McConnelsville,  he showed us a book that was written in the 1980's by two gentlemen now deceased. They went around to certain graveyards and wrote down who they found there. I am assuming that George was married to Elizabeth but you cannot read her name on the tombstone. There were several totally unreadable as well. Back in the 80's you may have been able to make it out. They list them together and Elizabeth as being his wife. It lists her tombstone in Mt. Zion Cemetery has having 1795-1890 on it.

The book lists the info as follows:

George

Elizabeth -wife- 1795-1890

Their children (click their name to read about them):

1. Julia Ann Anderson-Shannon UPDATE! NEW INFORMATION! SEPTEMBER 15, 2007

2. John b. 1818 in MD

3. Charlotte

4. Louisa

5. Lucy

6. Sarah E.

7. Elizabeth
8. James D. b. 10-5-1830 OH. - 1-1-1883

9. George W. b. 1830

10. Alles or Alice b. 1833

11. Matilda b. 1834

12. William Thomas. b. 1836 d. 1877 due to an accident in the West.

This was found at the Mt. Zion Cemetery as well:

William 3 mo. 1889 (note: I did not see this grave but it was listed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery Directory. It may have been too worn down)

I am not sure who William (3 mo.) was. He wasn't Elizabeth's. Oliver did have a child named William but the census listed him being born in 1856. I show no other Williams. Elizabeth's son James, b. 1830 is listed in the census of 1860 as being 29 and Margaret b. 1837 as 23 with William as 4, Henry 3, Hannah 2. So I don't know if William was the same as the one listed as dying at 3 mo. How could it be?
