Getting Everything Together
The first step, is to buy everything. Once this is completed, organize everything, this way you know were to look to find a part. In the following steps, I will be giving instructions to build a 40KHz oscillator, how to hook up an IR det. and IR l.e.d.s, and also I will show a simple method of detecting obsticals.
Adding Headers to the Boards
DIRECTIONS FOR MOUNTING HEADERS: Put the header in and solder the pin specified later in place. After the solder has cooled, check and make sure the header is straight. If it isn't, then hold the opposite end of the header pin that you soldered with your fingers (NOTE do not hold the side you did solder as it will be getting VERY hot), and melt the solder with the iron. The header will become lose. Do not pull the header out, simply adjust it so that it is straight, then remove the iron and hold the header in place for a few seconds until the solder has cooled.
Now take a 1x5 pin header, and mount it at the bottom of the oscillator board as described in the paragraph above, except, solder the middle pin. When this is completed, cut off the middle pin of this header. This will separate the two input pins, on the header, from the two power pins on the header.
Next take a 1x5 socket, and solder it, as you have before, on to the bottom left corner of the board (this time the top pin). Now take the iron and melt the top pin just a little until the plastic covers the hole of the socket( NOTE do not keep the iron on so long that you damage the entire header, you just want a thin layer of plastic over the left end of the 1x5 socket).
