PG2 Pacific File Facts Page
This page contains notes, discussions, information the other stuff about the Pacific file created by W Dickens and myself.
List of Countries in the Pacific File Following is a list of countries that now appear in the Pacific file. Due to design constraints imposed by PG2 only 26 countries are permitted in an equipment file. This means that for every country included in the file a European country had to be taken out. Some countries appear in both the original SSI European file and in our new Pacific file, for example USA. Also the original position of some countries have changed, for example Netherlands, as its role in the Pacific was relative more important an in Europe. Editor Position MM & WD Pacific File SSI European File 1 New Zealand Austria 2 Iraq Belgium 3 India Bulgaria 4 Australia Czech 5 Persia Denmark 6 Japan Finland 7 France France 8 Germany Germany 9 Mercenary Greece 10 USA USA 11 Canada Hungary 12 Turkey Turkey 13 Italy Italy 14 Romania Netherlands 15 Thailand Norway 16 National China Poland 17 None Portugal 18 Netherlands Romania 19 None Spain 20 Russia Russia 21 Afghanistan Sweden 22 Communist China Switzerland 23 UK UK 24 Mongolia Yugoslavia 25 Manchuko Nationalist 26 US Marines Republican Notes on particular countries included in the file: Manchuko: A puppet state created by Japan in North China. It was intended as a stand alone country when created by the Japanese. Persia: Now known as Iran. All – Nations: A generic country used to hold all the defensive type units such as gun emplacements, bunkers etc. These units can only be placed by a scenario creator using the special scenario editor. Any unit can to given to any other country by way of this editor. The editor permits the unit to appear a unit originally belonging to the new country. Follow the links to W Dickens site for more info on the special editor. Canada: Its involvement in the pacific was limited but it fight in a few battles. New Zealand: Like Canada it had limited involvement in the Pacific theatre, however had the Japanese been slightly more lucky in the early stages of the war New Zealand would have become a major player. Netherlands: The Dutch had a lot of forces in the Pacific that defended their colonies and then continued the fight under the control of the British and Australians. Mongolia: No a lot of details are available about the Mongolian war effort, they did fight for the Russians. Thailand: They fought the French in the late 1940 in a major war over Indochina. India: This country has been included due to the importance and number of troops they supplied to the British. Strictly speaking they weren’t an independent country until after WW2 but by their inclusion campaigns based on their army are available. US Marines: Uses the American flag, useful for campaigns and scenarios where the designer wants to limit the allied players force pool to only units used by the Marines. |
