Tabletop wargames are most commonly played with miniature soldiers made from plastic or metal. There are two main sizes for metal miniatures "25mm" or "15mm". The 25 or 15 describes the approximate size from foot to eye-level of a typical soldier. Different manufacturers interpret these scales very differently and sizes have tended to creep upwards creating the "new" scale of 28mm and making a lot of 15mm figures closer to 18mm.

There are hundred of manufacturers of wargames figures. Some produce a small number ranges, others have a vast number of periods and scales. Gripping Beast, Vendel and The Foundry have been the most recent to set the standards for accuracy and quality but everyone has their own favourites.
