SPECULAR
The SPECULAR is a 278 foot vessel that sank on August 27, 1900. From the deck, divers will often see silhouetted above the large twin boilers, schools of bass. Large anchor chain leads divers to two large anchors. Just forward and to the starboard lies the wooden stock anchor. The clam anchor lies to the port of the bow. Small winches are tucked under her railings. Also on display is a triple expansion steam engine. Cargo of high grade specular iron ore covers her length. Depth 37 feet.

Photograph of Specular in above frame. In the side scan image to the left, the twin boilers are visible just forward of the triple expansion engine which has fallen toward the port rail. Just barely detectible at the bow, is the starboard stock anchor and clam anchor off to the port. |
