Taylor woke with a groan, to the sound of the vacuum cleaner right outside his room. "God.." He got up and threw on his jeans, ran a hand through his hair, and went to see why his Mom was already on a cleaning frenzy. They had just gotten home from being on tour yesterday and he was dog ass tired. he wandered through the hall and his eyes popped open at what he saw. This was definitely NOT his mother. The slender, tanned figure bent over in front of him was dressed in a bikini top and a pair of cutoff levi shorts, and a pair of ankle socks. Her hair was long, curly and the color of coffee, with a few blonde streaks, and was pulled back into a ponytail. She turned and he was rewarded with a blinding smile. "Well good mornin' sunshine...your mama told me ya'll would be home this week, but I didn't know she meant the day I'd be here..sorry angel. Didn't mean to wake you.." she said. "Holy shit, Day...I almost didn't recognize you.." he said in surprise. Dayna chuckled and grinned at him. "Well now, dollface..you don't look so bad yourself.." she teased. Taylor laughed and rubbed his sleepy eyes. "Come on, Day..You know I didn't mean it like that. Been a long time. You look different, that's all. Your hair's grown about a foot and you've been in the sun..you slackin' off in class woman? Cuttin' class to hang out at the pool?" he joked. "Workin' outside some smart ass..the raised the price of next semester's books." she said with her hand on her hip. "How was your tour?" she asked. "It was awesome Day, but I'm still beat. Lemme get some coffee and then I'll tell you all about it.." he grinned. "Sure baby..if you don't mind followin' me around while I lug this thing from room to room..." "Never bothered me before.." he laughed. "Okay angel..do me a favor though..go cover up that nature boy brother of yours..it's laundry day.." she giggled. "Gladly.." he joked and went to get a shirt and a cup of coffee. |
Dayna continued to vacuum, humming to herself as she worked. She liked working for the Hanson family, they tended to treat her like family and paid her well, which helped with her pay for her schooling. She especially liked it when the older boys were home, they were kind of rowdy and made her feel comfortable for the six hours she had to spend there each week, plus any extra days Diana felt she needed her when they were all home at the same time. She especially liked Taylor's company and it seemed he sought her out on the days she was here to help. Taylor liked to talk and they had a lot in common as far as interests and what they liked to do for fun. And he was as big a coffee drinker as she was. He returned quickly, hair combed, shirt on, and two cups of coffee in hand. "I thought you'd be ready for a cup by now Day.." he smiled handing it to her. "Yeah.." she smiled. "Thanks." she took the cup and sipped off it. Than handed it back to him. "You'll have to keep an eye on it for me angel..I'm still on the clock. You know I hate to let your mama think I'm slackin' just to flirt with you.." she teased. "Yeah, right Day..she'd think that." he said sarcastically. She chuckled and wound up the cord to the vacuum and put it away. "I can finish this later," she smiled. "You cover up that wild Indian brother of yours? Cause he could sleep through a tornado.." "Yeah, but I'll just go in and get it Day," he laughed then. "Wouldn't want you to be scarred for life.." "Why thank you, angel..believe me I do appreciate it. Meet me in the laundry room then," she smiled again and picked up the full laundry basket she had taken from the girls' room, slung it against her hip, grabbed both mugs of coffee and headed for the laundry room. Taylor watched her for a moment, his body heating up and his head becoming confused. Sure he had always liked Dayna, she'd been working for the family since he was 16 and he discovered right away that they would actually become good friends. He was the only one who called her Day, it started out as a joke he'd made when he was especially tired and really goofy. He'd forgotten the joke but remembered that he rhymed their names, it struck her funny at the time so it kind of stuck, at least with the two of them. He grinned then, trying to remember the last time she had actually called him by his name. He couldn't. She always called him angel, or occasionally sunshine, dollface when she was teasing him, but mostly she called him angel. For the first time since he'd known her he wondered why. He took a deep breath as he watched her wiggle her hip, balancing her load, down the hallway, and wondered why his stomach was in a knot."It's only Day.." he told himself and went to gather the laundry from the room he shared with his brothers for her. |
Dayna set the coffee cups down, then the basket, and sighed. Taylor had changed so much in the last eight months, at least his appearance. She had always thought he was a beautiful person inside and out, the main reason she called him angel, though she never told him that, but he looked like a man, now. "He is a man stupid.." she told herself. After all he had turned eighteen just this spring. A beautiful man, but a man nonetheless. "And miss Dayna," she told herself, "If you wanna keep this job and stay in school for the ONE stinkin' year you have left, keep your eyeballs and your mitts off him." Walker and Diana had always been more than kind and treated her well, but she was a year and a half older than Ike and what would they do if they knew she was hot for their baby boy? Her, the hired help. And she had to admit, as she glanced back over her shoulder at his beautiful retreating figure that she was DEFINITELY hot for him. She shook her head roughly and began to sort the laundry. |
