"Damn!" Dayna exclaimed, slamming her fist down on her desk. "At least I saved what I had.." she sighed. She looked up at the clock, it was not too late too call Mrs. Hanson and let her know not to expect her tomorrow. She picked up the phone and dialed. "Hello?" "Hi angel. Is your mom around?" "She' kinda busy right now, Day. What's up?" "Not much, just my stupid computer crashed AGAIN. I wanted to tell your mom I wouldn't make it tomorrow. I'm gonna have to spend the day at the library, I have a paper due.." Taylor groaned on the other end, "Day.." he whined, "she's gonna panic.." "I know angel, but I already asked for one extension. My professor will have an even bigger stroke than your mama will if I ask for another one." "Wait..I have an idea...DON'T hang up.." "Angel.." Dayna waited what seemed an eternity for him to come back. She hated to cancel on Mrs. Hanson, they were her favorite and only customers she had left. Things were tight and she knew it would be an even tighter week if she had to miss work, but she also wanted to graduate on time. She sighed loudly. "Come on angel. I have to get to bed if I'm gonna get up and to the library before there are no computers available.." she muttered to herself. "Day? You still there?" Taylor asked breathlessly. "Yeah angel. Mind tellin' me what took you so long?" she chuckled. "I was talking to my mother." she could hear his smile in his voice. "Well? Did you have to call a rescue squad when you told her I wasn't coming?" she teased. "Nope, 'cause I had a better idea.." "And what would that be, Einstein?" she joked. "Aww Day..I thought it was a good one." "Well, out with it, dollface.." she laughed again. "Pack a bag and get over here.." he said. |
"WHAT?!" "You heard me..no one is using the guest room, you can use my computer to finish your paper, and stay there tonight. That way it doesn't matter what time you finish, you'll still be free to help my mom. She's got it in her head that she CANNOT run tis house without you, you know." "That's awful sweet, angel. But I dunno if it's such a good idea.." she hesitated. "You know my mom is always talking about how education is so important..come on Day, you know you wanna get that paper done tonight. It's just us..." he urged. "You sure it's alright with your mama?" she asked. "Yeah, Day. She'd do just about anything, short of selling her soul or murder, to make sure you didn't miss the day you're supposed to be here." And so would I, he thought to himself. "Okay, angel. I'll be there in about an hour." she finally gave in. "Cool, Day. I'll make you a pot of coffee.." he said. "See ya angel." "Bye, Day." Dayna gathered her thing wondering if she'd lost what was left of her marbles. But Taylor was right, his mother would have a full blown panic attack if she couldn't make it. This semester was a killer and more than once she had tried to just quit, but Diana wouldn't hear of it. She gave Dayna the extra time off to get her assignments completed and did whatever she could to help her keep up, as long as she didn't miss her scheduled day to do the heavy cleaning. Dayna grabbed her keys and her jacket, slung her bag over her shoulder, stuck her wallet in her pocket and headed out the door. "I can't believe I'm doing this.." she said to herself as she started her car and pulled out of the parking lot. |
Taylor went to the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee, trying not to let the rest of his family now that he was almost giddy with the idea that Day was coming here and not just to clean everything in sight. He really did feel bad that her computer crashed again, it seemed to be giving her alot of problems lately and from the way she talked she was having a hard time keeping up with her studies and working too. His heart sank the day he'd overheard his mother say that Day had actually tried to quit, then breathed a sigh of relief when she told his father that she would do anything to help her keep up with her schooling to keep her here as long as possible. Everybody here liked Day, ALOT and even his mother trusted her to come in and work while they were away, he could see why she wouldn't want to go through the process of hiring and firing to find someone else as great as Day. Besides, he knew it would be impossible. Taylor went and took a quick shower, then picked up some of the things that were laying around in the room he and his brothers used when they had friends over, or were in the mood to play or write, separate from where they slept. He cleared off the computer desk and then went to the family room to wait, so he could let her in since his parents had already gone to bed. Ike and Zac were still up, Zac glued to the TV playing video games and Ike was reading. Taylor almost jumped out of his skin when the gate buzzer went off. "Who the hell is that?" Ike asked, starting to get up. "It's just Day, Ike." Taylor answered, and went to push the button to oopen the gate for her. "Dayna's here? NOW?" Ike asked. "Her computer crashed and she has a paper due. I told her she could use mine, mom told her to stay in the guest room. Otherwise she wouldn't be able to work tomorrow and Mom would panic." Taylo explained a little too quickly. "Yeah..so long as YOU stay OUT of the guest room." Ike joked. "We know you're hot for her Tay." Ike and Zac grinned knowingly at each other. "Shut up. dorks. I'm just tryin' to help her out, school is important to her." he said and strode to answer the door. |
