Zac was not happy with the way things were going today. First off, the drum tracks he was trying to get right seemed completely WRONG to him, but instead of staying to help him out, his brothers both had dates they wouldn't cancel, though he had done it for them before. "Maybe if you take a break and we start fresh tomorrow Zac?" Tay suggested, as he threw his jacket on and headed out the door. "Yeah, Zac. Give your arms a break, man and your brain. We'll get it tomorrow. " Ike agreed. "Want me to take you back?" he asked. "Bite me.." Zac said frustrated. "Whatever." was Ike's reply. "Sorry man, this is just pissing me off.." Zac relented and sighed heavily. "I'll call a cab. I think I'll hang out and just goof off a while.." he said. What he really didn't want was to sit in the house with his parents and the little kids while he was frustrated and his brothers were out getting their..well...having a good time. "Okay man, see ya.." Ike said, threw his jacket on and slammed out the door. "Whatever." Zac said into the empty room. He picked up his drumsticks and began to pound, aimlessly, just to hear a beat he liked. He was really getting into it, liking the fact that no one was in the building this time of the evening, including his mother, who would tell him to give it a rest so the little kids could go to sleep if they were at home. He was beginning to sweat as the rythym poured out of him, and suddenly the thing he was working on came pouring out, and it sounded RIGHT. Well. Almost. "Damn!" he swore and tossed his drumsticks to the ground. Just then a loud rolling noise startled him, and he spun quickly to face the door. "Who the hell are you?" he asked quickly. "Well, hello to you too..." the pretty girl who stood before him said, sarcastically. "Sorry. You scared me. I was kind of into it.." Zac said. "I could tell. I was trying to sneak in and out..but I have to get done. Other things to do you know. Better ones." the dark-haired, green-eyed girl answered. She was gorgeous, Zac thought to himself. Why the heck was she pushing that stupid cart around? She should be a model or something. "Go ahead." he tried to answer and appear casual. "I need a break..it's still not right." She moved into the room with the cart, looked around, dumped the garbage cans into the big one on the cart and grinned as she started to leave the room. "Slow it down a bit, bet it works.." He looked at her, stunned. "I'll try it. Thanks um...oh. I'm Zac.." he smiled and stuck his hand out. "I'm Emma..." she smiled back but did not take his hand. "Nice to meet you Zac. If you're still here when I'm ready to leave, I'll give you that handshake." she nodded toward the garbage bin. "Okay. I should be...you're early aren't you? There's usually no one here this time of day..." he asked. "If I was the regular crew, yeah." she laughed. "I'm just helpin' out a friend. But I have school in the morning..thank god not an EARLY class..so I came in, thinking most of you crazy musicians had it outta your system for the day. Apparently I thought wrong. Sorry I interrupted you, didn't mean to freak you out either." she laughed again and Zac found himself laughing with her, it was infectious. "Usually someone comes back in 'cause they forgot something and scares the hell outta me.." he laughed with her again. "That's alright. I was kind of into it. I thought you weren't the regular crew?" he asked, confused at her reference to her previous experiences. "I'm not." she smiled. "But I fill in ALOT. My friend is a single mom, kids get sick." she shrugged. "That's cool of you. Maybe I'll see you when you finish up? You owe me a handshake." he grinned. Emma smiled and shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe. Nice meeting you Zac." "Yeah..nice meeting you too, Emma." she watched as she left the room and sighed. Then he went back to his drumkit. |
Emma smiled to herself, that one was a cutie. 'Bet his girlfriend's gonna be pissed tonight,' she thought. After all a musician, that good looking... AND a drummer.. just HAD to have some cute little barbie doll waitin' in the wings. Emma could tell he was more serious about his music than most of the two bit pot-heads that tried to get studio time here, as she listened to him play. He hadn't shut the door when she left the room and she could hear every pounding beat. 'Hey..' she grinned to herself, 'He slowed it down..' She finished her job to the beat of Zac's music. She worked absently, out of habit. She really hated doing this, but damn, it seemed like Jenny's baby was sick more often than not lately and the baby was so precious she didn't have the heart to say no, knowing the baby only wanted her mother when she was sick. She let her mind wander back to Zac, who was strong, handsome, had gorgeous long blonde hair and looked very familiar to her. She found herself bopping her head to a familiar beat and the stood frozen, realizing that Zac was playing it. Zac. Oh. THAT Zac. Holy shit he'd grown into a fine lookin' man...whatever barbie doll was waiting in the wings was lucky indeed she thought. She felt even more flattered that he had tried slowing it down, but also like a moron for suggesting it to him. He definately knew what he was doing . She sighed and finished up, put her things away and grabbed her jacket. California days this time of year were hot and sunny, but it got chilly at night. She pulled her keys from her pocket and looked into the room where Zac had been playing. Shoot! She at least wanted to say goodbye. Oh well. She headed for the front door, looking for the slip of paper with the alarm code on it and plowed straight into him. Zac Hanson. "Oops! Sorry Zac. Gotta find the code..' she grinned up and then dug through her jacket pocket some more. "I thought you left, or I would have been paying closer attention." she explained. "It's okay, Emma...and you still owe me a handshake." he smiled down at her. "Damn!" she muttered and looked around the room. There it was, on the receptionists' desk. She quick pumped some hand sanitizer into her palm and rubbed it into both hands. "All better. MY pleasure.." she giggled and stuck her hand out. She was amazed at how large and warm his hands were as he gently shook hers. "I can punch the code Emma." he smiled. "If you insist, Zac. Oh thanks for makin' my job go alot faster tonight.." she grinned, shuffling through all the keys on the ring. "ME?" he asked, "How'd I do that?" "You slowed it down.." she answered. "It was perfect." she giggled again. "Kept me right on schedule.." Zac laughed with her, "You're welcome...I think. Got your key?" he asked and she nodded. Zac punched the code and Emma locked the door. "Shit!" he exclaimed startling Emma. "What'sa matter?" she asked. "My retarded brothers left and I forgot to call a cab..wanna let me back in?" "Damn! I can't...not for about 10 minutes or we'll have to explain to the cops why the alarm went off, not to mention the police charge for false alarms.." she groaned. "Really?" That was a new one on Zac, but then he never really handled that kind of stuff. "Yeah really." she said matter-of-factly. "Umm...and I wouldn't let my brothers hear me call them retards if I were you." she grinned. "How do you know they're not?" he asked, smiling. "I don't think that any Hanson is retarded.." she giggled at his look of surprise, "But if you wanna go get a coke, or a cup of coffee and sit with me a minute, until I can let you back in the building, I'm willing to let you prove me wrong." she laughed again and Zac found himself laughing with her and totally at ease in her presence, even though she had just confessed to knowing exactly who he was. |
