"I thought you had school in the morning?" he asked. "I do." she aswered, "but 10 minutes is no big deal. 'Sides I'd feel bad leaving you out on the street all by yourself with no key to get back in. Especially since you helped me get finished a little early. Or will your signifigant other have a cow if you have a cup with some strange janitor chick?"
Zac laughed. "Not even. I don't have a 'signifigant other'" he made a goofy face at her, "so yeah, miss smart ass. Let's go get a cup. Where's your car?" he asked. "We can walk, there's a good place just up the block." she replied. He might be Zac Hanson, but she had no idea what he was really like, though what she'd seen so far impressed her. "Okay, Em. We'll walk. So...what classes are you taking?" he asked to break the little bit of ice left as they walked. Their conversation was lively and he found that they had a lot in common. She seemed very relaxed as she talked with him and sipped her coffee, and he liked the way her dark green eyes sparkled when she was excited about something. Her hair was a dark, copper-tinged brown and hung in ringlets to her shoulders. He noticed that she didn't wear alot of make-up, but the dark black mascara she wore made her eyes stand out, and the pinkish lip gloss made her lips look soft and very kissable. He scolded himself for not paying atttention to what she was saying and turned his attention back to the conversation. They talked for a lot longer than both had planned, and they only noticed when they were the only ones left in the coffee shop and the server was staring impatiently at them, and huffing as she cleaned up the counter. "Mary Sunshine back there is gonna blow a gasket if we don't get out of here Zac.." Emma grinned and then looked at her watch. She gasped in dismay, "Oh hell! No wonder..it's only almost midnight.."
"I'm sorry, Em. You gonna be able to make it class okay?" Zac asked, feeling truly bad. "Umm yeah. But I think the bigger question is, how the hell are you gonna get home alright? I wouldn't take a cab even in THIS neighborhood this time of night." she told him, then sighed. "Only one thing to do Hanson..." she grinned. "Get your ass in my car and no funny stuff on the way. I'll take you, but the coffee is on you. THIS TIME." Zac smiled and went to pay the bill, then rejoined Emma at the table. He held her jacket as she slipped it on, and she smiled up at him. "It's a deal Em. As long as I get to see you again." he smiled and she caught her breath. She had been joking, never dreaming that  he would ask to see her again. She also noticed that he called her Em, like he'd known her forever, even her mother didn't shorten her name like that. But from Zac it didn't bother her. "You may change your mind after riding with me." she joked. "My mother calls me leadfoot. Let's go."
"Leadfoot, huh?" Zac teased, "this I gotta see.."  They walked back to Emma's car resuming the conversation they had been having earlier, and when Emma began to navigate her way through L.A. traffic, Zac realized she hadn't been kidding. "Jeez Em. Maybe I would have been safer in a cab.." he smiled. "Listen bud. You can always try walking.." she joked back. "I didn't think there'd be this much traffic, now." he commented absently. "In this town? On a FRIDAY NIGHT?" she shook her head and rolled her eyes. "Hey I'm from Tulsa remeber? They roll up the sidewalks at 10 or 11 on weekends and 6 on Sunday...dry county too..bastards.." he grinned. "Dry county?" Emma asked, totally confused. "No alcohol sales on sunday.." he answered. Suddenly there was a car directly in front of them and Emma showed no sign of slowing down. "EEEEEMMMMM!!!" Zac hollered, his heart catching in his throat. "What?" she asked innocently as she changed lanes. "Damn! I thought you didn't see him..you tryin' to give me a heart attack?"

"Hicks.." Emma grinned and shook her head. "Don't worry Zac. I'll get you there in one piece."
"That's debatable." he grinned back. When they finally pulled up in front of the house his family used when they were here on buisness, Zac breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks Em. " he said as he turned to her.
"No problem Zac. It was fun hangin' out with you." she smiled. She has the most beautiful smile I've ever seen, he thought to himself and knew that he definately wanted to see her again. "Em?" he began cautiously. "Yeah?" she waited, holding her breath. "I wasn't kidding. I really would like to see you again. Would you wanna have dinner with me? Maybe tomorrow ni..hey wait..how come you have class on Saturday?"
Emma sighed, "Make up assignment..don't ask."
"Oh. Anyway, you'll need a break. Are you busy tomorrow night?" he asked. She thought long and hard, her emotiona as big a jumble as her nerves all of a sudden. Dinner, with Zac Hanson. Any other girl would have jumped at the chance, but what the heck did he want with her? "Zac..thank you for asking, but.." He cut her off, "Come on Em. At least let me make it up that you had to drive way out here to bring me home. Pleeeeezzee?" he gave her his best puppy-eyed gaze and her resolve crumbled into laughter. "How can I refuse that?"
"Good. Can I have your phone number? I'll give you a call and we'll decide where and when then, okay?" he batted his eyelashes and made a goofy face. "GOD! Okay Zac..." she giggled and quickly wrote her number on the palm of his hand. "Class is over at noon...I should be home by 1, okay?" "Sweet." he smiled. "Thanks again Em. Talk to you tomorrow, definately." he said softly and kissed her cheek.  He opened the door quickly and hopped out, then ducked his head back in. "Take it easy on the way home will you? I'd hate to have to bring you dinner in the hospital, leadfoot." he teased. "GOODBYE Zac." she laughed, as he stood to close the door. "Hey Hanson..." she called to him and he ducked back down. "What?" he grinned. "Thanks for provin' me right." she said.
"You haven't met my brothers yet, Em." he laughed, "See you tomorrow." "See you tomorrow, Zac." Emma giggled and gunned her motor. Zac stood grinning like a fool in the driveway for about 10 minutes after she had disappeared down the street.
Zac was still standing in the driveway when Taylor pulled up, Ike right behind him. " 'Sup, Zac? Why are you standing in the driveway looking like a moron this time of night? Don't tell me you're just getting back from the studio.." Taylor asked his brother. Taylor and Ike exchanged smirks when Zac didn't answer right away. Ike gave him a hard shove. "Hey..earth to Zac!!! Why the hell are you standing in the driveway? It's 1am..."  "Yeah, Zac...are you stoned or something?" Taylor grinned at Ike, as he asked the question, never having seen Zac so out of it. Zac batted their hands away, "Shut up, morons..and YES I am just getting back from the studio." He turned to Taylor, "AND I am NOT stoned.so kiss my ass geeks.." he grinned and strolled into the house, being careful not to wake his parents or younger siblings. Taylor and Ike exchanged surprised glances, "Oh my god..he found himself a woman.." Ike told Tay in one of his best southern accents. They hurried in the house behind their brother, locked up behind them and dashed for the very large bedroom they shared.
"Come on, Zac...who is she?" Tay asked, excitedly. "Yeah man, where'd you meet her?" Ike added.
Zac looked at both of them like they'd lost their minds, "What the heck are you talking about?" he asked, impatiently sticking his hands in his pockets. "You dork! The girl you met..you wouldn't be just NOW coming in from the studio.." Tay rolled his eyes and sighed impatiently. "Yeah Zac, don't be holdin' out on us man. Who IS she?" Ike urged. Zac's brother's stood unmoving, waiting for his answer. 'Damn,' Zac thought to himself, 'not even two minute's peace in this house' He absently pulled his hand from his pocket and looked at the phone number printed neatly in the palm of his hand, along with her name in capital letters. "I have no idea what you two morons are talking about. I'm tired. Shut up so I can go to sleep." Zac grinned. Tay and Ike looked at each other. "Oh reeeaaally.." Ike asked as Tay reached out and grabbed his wrist. "Then who is EMMA?"
