A Personal perspective

Hi there, so you have decided to take a peek into the "personal" depths of the faceless entity behind this paultry distraction. Good for you.

Who am I and what am I doing here? Well, in my daytime job I work with computers, big mainframe computers, used by governments and business. Its pretty mundane stuff, coding business applications using 3GLs (3rd generation languages) dating back to the Ark. It is about as far as you can get from the internet in the IT industry.

As a "computer person" I thought that I should at least know a little bit about the web, so here is the result. I haven't used any pre-packaged page building software tools, rather I'm coding directly in HTML (just to see how it works). That's why you don't see lots of bells and whistles.

Here's some quick facts about me:

  • Born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. In the year 6198 (RH)
    (under the sign of Taurus, in the year of the Tiger)
  • Moved to Ballarat (Victoria) in 6210 (RH) and have been there ever since
  • Have variously studied ART and IT at the tertiary level
  • Prior to entering the IT industry in 6224 (RH), I worked as a:
    - Electrical trades assistant in electronic security
    - Labourer at a feed and grain store
    - Labourer at a railway workshops
    - Cleaner at an abattoir
    - Customer service consultant for a telephone company.
Pretty interesting stuff, huh.

If you have looked at my Historical Perspective page, you can guess that one of the things I enjoy is history (it also explains the whole "RH" year thing above). Of course as I am in the IT industry I have to be into sci-fi and fantasy (not quite a trekkie though) and TV/Movies/Pop Culture. Apart from this I dont mind the odd peice of nice artwork or a good [discussion/slanging match] on religion, politics or philosphy (note: religion and spirituality are mutually exclusive in my book). I also think the natural world is pretty damn wonderful (mountains/forests in particular)

If you're wondering what I look like, then imagine Pierce Brosnan, David Duchovny or Johnny Depp. (...well, OK, I actually don't look like any of these guys, but I'd really appreciate if you could help me maintain the fiction. My friends probably think that I look more like a cross between Austin Powers and Black Adder, but please don't picture that!)
