Buddy ran back to the big glass door to look at everything. Then he hopped up on a footstool his mom had put by the door (she had put that footstool there just for him, so he would be able to see over the edges of the balcony whenever he was looking out the door). He watched and watched, wishing all the while that he were outside.

After a while, a butterfly flew onto the balcony. He was so excited. He raised up his hind legs and wiggled his rear end around in the air and watched the butterfly without moving. Then - there it was! The butterfly was right in front of his nose. In fact, Buddy had to cross his eyes to see it. Then, without thinking and in the time it takes to blink your eyes, he pounced toward that butterfly.

"Ouch!" he yelled, having forgotten about the big glass door. Buddy had banged his nose. Oh boy, did that hurt! And the butterfly had been scared away by the thud Buddy had made when he hit the door.

Buddy squatted back down on the stool and continued to look out the window and rubbed his throbbing nose. He wanted to go outside so badly. A few minutes later, he sat up suddenly. There was his best friend, Booger, standing downstairs on the little bridge that crossed the stream. He was outside!

"Maybe he can help me get out," thought Buddy. He started yelling for his friend, but Booger couldn't hear him through the big glass door. He started jumping up and down, but Booger didn't see him, because the balcony was two stories up.

Then - oh dear - Booger was walking away. Buddy ran to the window in the other room. He climbed up on the windowsill and started jumping and hollering at the same time, but Booger still didn't hear or see Buddy. His friend just kept walking along. Buddy had one more chance. He ran to the window in the room at the far end of the apartment and jumped on the windowsill. He squatted down, raised up his hind legs, wiggled his rear-end and pounced at the window. He made such a loud thud that Booger stepped dead in his tracks and looked up at the window where Buddy was standing. Buddy was so excited, he was jumping up and down. Booger turned around and ran towards the balcony and the big glass door, because he could talk to Buddy there. Buddy ran back to the big glass door and met Booger.
