Buddy and Booger sat nose to nose at the door. They yelled back and forth at each other through the door, trying to figure out what to do. They pounced on the door - separately and then together - but it would not move. They they both stretched up as tall as they could to reach the handle, but the door was too heavy for them to pull open. By this time they were both worn out, so they curled up and took a short nap.

When they woke up, Booger told Buddy all about the beautiful day. Buddy wanted to go outside with his friend, but it was becoming obvious to him that he was going to miss the first day of Spring this year, so he told Booger to go on and enjoy the day. They said "Goodbye", and Booger left.

Well, Buddy was so sad, he wanted to cry but he knew it would do no good. So, he climbed back on his footstool and sat there watching the day. His mom usually didn't come home from work until sunset, so Buddy thought he would at least watch the day go by.

He was looking so closely at the birds flying through the air and the trees and flowers swaying in the breeze that he almost didn't notice his Mom walking up. She had a bunch of brown paper sacks in her arms. When he saw those sacks, he realized that she hadn't gone to work. It was the day that his Mom brought home all those fun sacks to play in. It must have only been a few hours since she had left. He wasn't going to miss the first day of Spring after all!

He ran to the front door and sat waiting for her to open it. He was so happy he began purring as loud as a bunch of hummingbirds. When his Mom opened the door, he brushed past her legs, meowed "Hello" to her and was downstairs in a heartbeat.

He was outside and the day was even more beautiful than he had imagined. He ran through the bushes and rolled in the grass and laid in the sun. Buddy found his friend Booger and they played and played the rest of the day.

From then on, Buddy woke up the first time his Mom called for him. He would never oversleep again, because its very, very important to get up and see what each new day brings.
