Why cant a Fino have Lamborghini-style "scissor doors"?
I dont know why not, so i'm looking into using the hinges from
Street Dreams.
Their kit requires welding, and probably MIG welding because the
hinges mount
to the 18-20 guage steel Fiero chassis.

The upgraded kit with the four shocks is used. "The advantage
of the shorter shocks is that it is easier to find room
to install them. But then you need the two combined to lift
the weight of the door at the closer leverage."
The Fino door skin is much taller than the Fiero's, so
the installation shown here will not work. The hinge would
have to be turned upside down so the door goes over the fender.

Kit Car March '03 has a great picture
of a Lambo door open with a beautiful finish on the door jam.
Notice the contour of the door matches the wheel so the door can
swing up. The Fino contour goes the opposite way.

Kit Car
has another Lambo.
The hinge is mounted right at the top of the door so there are no
body clearance issues. The street dream hinge provides some swing-out
action so it doesnt have to be mounted right at the top. It can be mounted
about 2.5" lower.

Stock latches and handles can be used, but
Street Dreams
can provide a custom striker
guide (and this pic of it) to "prevent the striker from bumping
the bearclaw closed before the striker goes in it." Since i'm planning
to remount the latch at a more vertical angle, i wont need this piece.

This
Street Dreams
installation pic shows that the Windshield Pillar Filler should be
removed to ease the installation. After the door install is finished
this piece
will need some trimming so the door has clearance.
This pic also shows the door mounting plate bent to provide more welding
surface. Instead of bending 1/4" steel, it can be cut and welded at this
angle.

The correct way to remove the Windshield Pillar Filler is to remove the
Roof Panel first. But the entire roof doesnt need to be removed,
just lifted enough to get at the 2 hidden screws. (I did end up removing the
roof later anyway.)

Here the Street Dreams demo car shows that
the outer edge of the base mounting plate should have a support welded
to it, boxing in the new part of the chassis that the hinge now mounts
to.
